    Weird wording
Think about this before you reply.

Do you scratch an itch or
    Do you itch a scratch?

Now symantically speaking one should itch one's scratch.

But what happens when one's scratch itches? Does one then not scratch ones itch?

And yet for a bug bite one would scratch an itch.

    It's circular.

I wonder if this is what female logic is like.....

    Oooh!!!

    I wanna play

One cannot itch ones self. It is the feeling, not the doing.

One can only scratch ones self to relieve an itch.

    Re: Weird wording
For an itch, one can always scratch, but scratching an itch isn't always appropriate. Itching and scratching are cause and effect, but scratching an itch (especially with unclean hands) causes the scratch to become infected, thus leading to more itching and, inevitably, more scratching. Itches, therefore, should be evaluated carefully before scratches are administered to the itching portion of your body, lest scratching spread the itch and the itching.

I've read this a few times. I'm not confused by it any more.

Be careful what you scratch! An itch, spread by scratching, can lead to more itching over a larger portion of the surface area, and leaves a scratchy texture, leading to snagging on clothing. Tend an itch carefully, or scratch the scratching entirely and stock up on calamine lotion or alcohol and a torch.

As an aside, it really bugs me when a doctor doesn't know the difference between itching and scratching.

Still laughing about the stinky finger, Pat. :colbert:

You boys are very strange indeed.

So strange, that my female logic is lost with an itch of a scratch that can not be itched in ones brain.

    Therefore, I died.

Ah, but if you die, does the itch die also or does it still need to be scratched....
If no one is there to scratch an itch, does the itch need to be scratched?

That depends on what the itch of a scratch wants.
Afterall, itches of scratches (as well as a scratch of an itch) have minds of their own, don't they? ;)

    Back on target...

I think you scratch (action verb) your itch (noun). However, something can be itchy (adjective based on the noun) or in response to the nag "Don't scratch it", it is appropriate to reply "But it itches!" again still based on the noun, itch.

Personally, I use the word "scritch" as a verb, but I also wear pink, so there you go. :P

I don't think itch can be a verb, but I'll give that scratch can be a noun.

Itch can be a verb-as ladyOh said... but it is a feeling not an action
    " How's that bug Bite?"..."It itches", Or "It's itching".
Well actually 'itching' is a gerund not a verb.

A scratch can itch. But One does not itch a scratch.

I have a scratch that itches. I'd like to scratch that scratch that itches but I can' reach it.
