Boaphile Plastics "rating"

so im looking at boaphile plastics...
the largest id house in it would be a coastal carpet, or blood python...

and everything in between that.

so i would love personal experiences and PROS AND CONS.

Pros - One piece unit construction, with built in heating (normally).
Cons - Takes waaaaay too long to get your product. I've seen some weak cages come from them too, when housing larger animals like Retics and AfRocks. That and the guy is hard as all jebus to get a hold of.


Honestly....I recommend Animal plastics ;)

so what pros and cons do you have for them?

i wasnt even thinking of AP because i havnt heard alot about them...

But knowing how your into bigger snakes, these things must take abuse pretty well..

We have one AP cage, a 4x2x2 that Wally is in. I like it quite a bit. I've also looked at Boaphile and Reptile Basics. They are all good cages and you can't go wrong with any of them.

I have heard the same thing about Boaphile - long time from ordering to delivery and that he's very hard to get a hold of. The AP people were very helpful when I needed a lock for my cage. I'd check them out, too.

I've gotten Boaphile racks. They are VERY well constructed. But the length of time to get them, and the complete lack of communication... I'll never use them again. I got my latest rack from Neil Golli, and it's just as good, slightly cheaper I think, and came quickly, with great communication.
I haven't gotten the "cages" just the racks. Actually, I had sent him an email saying don't even bother to send the rack at this point, just send my money back, and two days later the racks arrived, no email saying they were shipped... nothing.

For what it's worth.

I have two Boaphile cages. I like them alot.
My only wish is that the plastic was thicker and therefore insulated better.

Boaphile is very clear on their website on how long it takes to get your order, and in my case he was exactly on time for both. I don't need hand-holding while I wait so communication wasn't an issue. The one time I called him to ask about heating options he answered the phone himself and was very helpful.

I think you'll find in this hobby that people that work with certain species gravitate toward certain cage manufacturers and brands of herping supplies. Many boa breeders love Boaphile cages. Many green tree python keepers love Jim Sharphorn cages. Many ball python breeders have now come to love Reptile Basics. That's just a few examples. I've noticed the same thing with thermostats whether it is a Helix, Johnsons/Ranco, or Herpstat. I have seen products made by all of the above manufacturers, also ARS caging and Animal Plastics, and all seem to have great products and I think you will be satisfied with whichever you choose.

I am definitely biased towards Animal Plastics. I have three T-10's and they are top notch cages, and I've said it before, their customer service is above and beyond the best I've dealt with.

I picked up two Boaphiles slightly used off of Craig's List........so I can't speak towards the customer service.

However, I can say I am not impressed with the quality - the cages are fairly flimsy and the hardware is not holding up. Given the difference in price, I would opt for the AP cages or give Repti-racks or PVC cages a whirl.

im now leaning toward AP cages.
i really have heard no bad about them.
and i seem to really like knowing, they are thick, and sturdy.
and knowing that "wally" can stay in one is a plus too!

While I like the cages/racks themselves, i've mentioned I had to add extra heat to the cages. I was shipped the wrong tubs for my aboreal rack and called several times over different months to see if they'd gotten the large tubs I had, which was the way I had acutually ordered the rack. I gave up after a while. I've had some cracks show up in one of the rack sides (where it meets the rest of the floor panels) but the rack works fine. It took at least 7 weeks for me to get all of my cages/racks from them at different times.

I've also found that urates really really seem to stick to the cage material.

I have an AP cage here, and communication was much better. I haven't had a chance to put it together yet. I won't be doing any business from boaphile again, unless it's like me picking up the cage right away at the show or something.
