And yes, they are being housed in what was once the Croc skink tank. I couldn't stand to see it sitting empty any longer. :tears: I had hermies as a kid and they were my fave. I'm actually really glad to have them again. Oh, and please don't make fun of my photos or my choice of reading material. :P

That's a sweet hermithouse, and the highest "up periscope" I think I've ever seen!

Ain't no way I'd make fun of your reading material - I only wish I could tame my jittery mind enough to read similar stuff.

The hermies and snake are adorable, but can not be housed together as they have totally different needs. Have you tried housing your hermies in a semi-aquatic setup? We found that they live much longer when in a tank that's about 50/50 land and water. We also offer fresh foods in addition to the hermit crab food, and have had them live long, healthy lives. My oldest daughter has 4 of them in her room right now set up like that.

I think the thread's subject is a joke. She is not really housing them together. Good one, btw. I love the periscope. That is one adorable BP. Nice setup for the hermies too.

The hermie setup looks nice, but they will die within a year because they cannot molt in wood chips of any kind. You need 3 times the height of your biggest crab in either sand or coco fiber.

So I am aware that this is an old thread. But, I just wanted to clarify that the title of the thread WAS a joke. Apparently a bad one. Sorry guys. :(

Also, to whoever mentioned molting - I know. All I had at the time was the mulch (left over from the croc skink) so I used it up. I was eventually able to switch over to sand, and since then the tank has developed into this:

    http://i27.photobucket.com/albums/c1...abintro338.jpg

The 2 crabs turned into 6 and then in the past two weeks or so ... 7. :O I don't buy them; I only rescue unwanted hermits. Everyone is alive and well and they've all gone through at least one molt - two crabs have had two molts. that's a 40gal tank which stays out on the patio with 80* weather and 80% humidity pretty much permanently.
