Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
WAIT, wait wait!!!! Please explain the peanut butter comment!!! This could be VERY important! Does your snake actually look like he has peanut butter in his mouth? If so, this is probably a very advanced upper respiratory infection and he requires an immediate visit to the vet to save his life!!!

Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
If he's going into shed, sometimes they do get more skiddish. Mine won't even peek their heads out of the hides like normal. I would just let him chill in his hide until after he sheds. Some snakes are just really feisty. I know I have a few of those :P
If he actually does have aspen in his mouth and is having a hard time getting it out, you can hold his head, face his nose down (so as not to actually get any water down his throat) and gently rinse away any debris.
If he has excretement like peanut butter, like Steve said, that's not a good sign at all.
Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
No no. It doesn't look like he has peanut butter in there. Just that he was moving his mouth around trying to get rid of that aspen.
Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
Oh! What a relief! Yes, I've seen mine do the peanut butter dance too! They generally will get it out themselves, but when I feel I need to help, I hold the snake behind the head to stabilize him, then use hemostats to gently grab the aspen. The snake usually does the rest.

Oh I see what your saying..
Like when we get peanut butter stuck to the roof of our mouths we like.. make funny faces.
I never heard about the RI having a peanut buttery look.. explanation anyone?
He'll probably be fine, Unless he swallows a large amount and it screws up his system, he shouldn't have a problem. It would be a good idea to attempt to get it out by opening his mouth lightly with a tooth pick and seeing what you can get. :]
Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
Yeah, I've watched Furio do that with a piece of aspen a couple times and he eventually gets it out and takes a little siesta.

It's an advanced symptom, this yellowy thick mucous comes from the lungs.

I know RIs are difficult to treat in the first place.. if this occurs does it usually mean theres not much hope?

I'm not sure. I think they do a lung wash err whatever it's called, and do aggressive treatment... I dont really know
Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
You basically remove the build-up of mucus from the mouth and then the snake is started on a series of shots (antibiotics). You would also raise the enclosure temps and decrease the humidity slightly.
Most cases are treatable, even this stage of RI.
Re: Aspen stuck in his mouth
my guy had that before he passed I was giving him shots every other day and humid treatments ( he sat in the box while I showered ) and after that he would have spit out lots of yellowy bloody mucus poor guy I cant see how people can let them get that bad ( my was ship[ped to me sick)
