Maybeh? New Adventure
So I want to get into keeping ball pythons, I have one alreay and LOVE it. He is a a glass tank (I know .. I know .. I suck at life) so I want to get him into a tub anyway. I have been looking around, and I don't want to get so far into this by spending thousands on rack before I even have that many snakes to justify it. So, in my searching I found this ...

What do you guys think? Any suggestions or ideas? Anyone have one of their adult racks that can give me some sort of a review?
Thanks!

LOTS of people have used thoughs racks, and love them. Rich is a great guy too.

I have 2 of the 32qt sweater box racks and love them, they work great and can't beat dealing w/ Rich.

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure
it just depends
the CB70 rack is for adult females
adult males can be housed in the 32 qt
so what size is your bp now and how many do you plan on getting?
because if you still have a baby male you shoulddnt get the CB70, it all depends on what you plan on getting in the future

Correct, but will it hurt them to be housed in something bigger? The deal is I have no idea what I plan on getting in the future (sex wise). I would assume at least 1 male, 2 females and go from there .. but I want to future proof my purchases for as long as possible. I like that these can be stacked, and I like the way the heating is done .. I dunno.
I do only have a young male ATM, but that WILL change and I want to be ready for that. The baby rack can wait until .. ya know, i have babies. When I get more adults (males and females) I was just planning on getting them into the correct sized racks then ... but for now, wouldn't this work for a starter?
* young male is about 8 months old.

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure
I have that CB-70 rack and the other 32QT rack from them and i love them, but if your snake is small that large of a home and can stress them out, cause him not to eat ext, but you can buy them and divide it into 2 smaller tubs and that might work because i total understand you dont want to send the money on a rack that he will grow out of and then have to buy another one, have you thought about building your own? you can by the heat tape from them. hope this helps

I did see those available, and I was planning on buying them is not to use permanently, then in a pinch I could use them before getting a new rack and such. I still plan on doing that .. so that's a good idea.
This rack will look so bare with just him in it for a while, but I must take the appropriate step when I can .. and it rather have too much space prepared for the animals then not enough.

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure
:) Rich is the greatest when it comes to housing and heating!
But I have chosen to Build my own racks, since I don't like how short most tubs are. :D It's easy, Much cheaper, and you can build to your own specs for space.

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure
if i were you, since right now you will only need the 32 qt, get that first, then when you have BIGGER females say you get in the future... then get the CB70
because no matter what if you have more snakes in the future youll have more rack space!

So .. Start with this ...
http://reptilebasics.com/Iris-Sweate...t-p-16197.html
And go from there? That makes sense too. It would be nice to have that extra tub, them move the larger females down to the CB-70 later in their lives. Touche salesman .. touche. :carrot:
Another question: Belly or Back heat? I have seen arguments for both, and want to know what you guys have to say about it.

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure
Rich at Reptile Basics is hands down the go to guy for this sort of stuff. Best customer service, delivery like you wouldn't believe and great products. We have an Reptile Basics rack here and just love it.
The nice thing with that second rack you are looking at is you can order the tub dividers with it. Then you have options if you need a baby tub....you just split a 32 easy as anything. Pull the divider when they get bigger. :)
Back or belly heat. Personally in a stable room that doesn't experience big swings in heat, I think back heat is fine. If not, I'd say go belly heat. You might want to consider one of Rich's temp guns tossed in that order (save on shipping). They really are a great tool to have to monitor the rack. You'll also need a t-stat or rheostat to run the rack. Read the FAQ's there about flexwatt and such. They are a great resource.

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure

Re: Maybeh? New Adventure
Well, the room they will be in for now has some major temp swings, and it is hard for me right now to keep ANYTHINg stable, but I am trying really hard to make it work for a couple more weeks. So, I guess it is belly heat for me. When I move, it may be better though (temp wise) so .. I think I will still go with belly, I like that sound of that better.
I am well aware of the need for the t-stat and temp gun, and that is all on my list for when I get it. I still have my Gov. check coming (DAMN MY LAST TWO DIGITS OS MY SS#!!!!!) so I think that will be what I splurge that on, getting the setup ready and such. I may have enough left over to purchase a nice female as well .. we will see.
