    Sad Day :(
Today is a very sad day for me, my ball python Kami has gone missing :(. I've checked everywhere, in/under dressers, pulled my bed completely apart (he was in my bedroom), looked through laundry, under all furniture. Basically anywhere he could possibly be. :(

My husband and I have been staying with my father for the last month or so waiting for our new house to be ready for us to move in to. Ironically enough, that day is today! So of course kami needs to get out the day we are able to move into the new house. *sigh* My father was showing the two snakes off to a few of his friends when I wasn't home. Not a big deal really, he's done it before. But apparently forgot to re-secure the top of Kami's tank. Miss V V he remembered to do. He was probably just all excited and chatting away...he's like that.

I don't know what else to do other than scour the place, which i have done three times now. The house is pretty small, and there is pretty much nothing for him to hide in. Dad has just the basics, and all of my stuff is in storage, except for the needs of the animals, and my bed. I'm afraid he may have discovered the old drain for the washer hook up. Its the perfect size for a snake to go down....and the dust bunny caught in the drain looks to have been pushed aside. I hope beyond hope he hasnt travelled down that pipe...into the septic :tears:

A very sad day :( Even though our new house IS ready to move into....not doing much today...its raining, and I'm miserable.

i was thinking about trying to set up a mouse trap....but he ate last night, so i'm thinking he may not care for a mouse trap right away, I figure i'd give him a few days if i haven't found him, then lay out a *trap* of sorts. Its just very frustrating.

leave a mouse in a bag hanging from the ground and wait the scent should attract the snake into the area

I would think the snake could smell the foul smell coming from a septic tank and not want to travel down the drain... Its probably hiding in a place where you least expect... Wait till night time and it might come out crawling around...

    How big is your snake?
Look anywhere that is dark, especially closets! Boxes, anything that looks cozy.
When my ball got out, he went to my closet and hid behind my dresser between two metal plates that were from our birdcage. I donno why he liked them as they were probably cold.. aha.

Don't forget to look under the fridge it's warm and dark under there. My friends has gotten loose twice and thats where she was.

thanks everyone! what type of bag can you put the mouse in? mine are all live.....he won't eat f/t'd..... they would probably be able to chew through any bag. I was thinking of getting a small metal wire cage, very small and put a cardboard box over it, with a hole in the side, so he would feel *safe*.....

I've checked under/behind/in the stove and the refrigerator....its a very old farm house, so he can't get in the closets the doors are flush to the floor. I did check them anyways though! There really isnt any boxes or anything like that around, I check in and under all the cabinets, dressers, etc. I've basically gone through every room in the house with a flashlight.....I'm hoping i just overlooked him and he will come out tonight. I'll keep you all posted.

Its very sad to see his empty cage. He's a good size, my thumb and forefinger can't touch around his midsection. I don't have a scale...so I can't give you grams... he's between one and two years old......

Just set up a warm spot with the hide from his cage. I lost my Albino girl once for 3 weeks. When I got home one day she was in the hide warming up. Good luck

Don't forget the mattress box spring. One of my cats loved to crawl into the box spring to hide. Its off the ground so may not be likely but it is a good hiding place.

Everytime I've had one go missing, they end up turning up less than five feet away from where they started, and in places you would never imagine they could fit. Really get in all the spaces right near the enclosure, you may be surprised what a tight space they can squeeze into. Really tear the area apart! I once found my adult male wedged between the bathroom cabinets and the wall, in a space I couldn't fit my fingers into.

I tend to catch them (I say tend, but there are exceptions) near to where they escaped.

Nighttime is the best time to go snake hunting.

Set up flour lines across doorways etc to see if he crosses them... and I also place tin can pyramides along the wall... clumsy snake butts tend to knock them over...

Sorry for the stress it is never fun (even though he probably will show up).

Flour lines sounds like a good idea. Hope you find your snake :snake:

A few weeks ago we thought we had lost our bp. The tank was securely closed so we couldn't figure out how she got out so we started searching my son's room, praying that she didn't get out of his room because my father is terrified of snakes, not to mention the three dogs. My son is 13 so his room is not the cleanest and searching wasn't easy but we cleaned the room as we searched...might as well kill two birds with one stone, right? About a half hour into it, I asked my son if he looked under the water dish because she has hid under it before. He said that there was no evidence of her digging under the the water dish and didn't feel a need to look. You never know so I made him look under the water dish and fortunately she managed to sneak under it without leaving a trace. Unfortunately though 1/2 hour wasn't long enough to clean his room!

I hope that you find your snake safe and sound somewhere very, very soon! Please keep us posted.

Well, I got up a few times last night and snuck around to see if I could find him...no trace.. My dad thought he heard him in his room under his bed, but he wasn't there. Thanks for all the input, i'm gonna try some of your tricks....

Luckily I know he can't crawl into my computer...as I have a laptop :D. I had checked the boxspring when i tore my room apart looking for him.
We will be moving completely into the new house this weekend, and i'm gonna leave his tank, on his side, with his heating pad and hide...incase he decides to come back into it. When I'm gone. Luckily this place is like 5 min from the new house, and the horses are here, so i can come back to check it out daily.

That stinks, Kim! I hope you find him, soon! There are members who have found their lost BPs months after losing them and one member even found his in a parking lot away from home! So, don't lose hope whatever you do.
