    Mojave Only?
I was going to wait for post shed pics to post this on more public sites but I'm dying for more opinions and with the high level of experience this site has amassed here goes…

    http://homevtour.home.comcast.net/~h...MMVT01_med.jpg

I'm confident this animal hatched by Marshall Van Thorre is a mojave but I HOPE it also inherited a wide pattern gene from it's mom who Daniel Garcia proved genetic last year. Is there precedence for mojave to have this much space between alien heads? Also note the white checking at the belly edge. A sister I'm more sure is the combo has a ton of that. Do regular mojave sometimes have that white breakup at edge of the side?

I need a male that has the wide pattern gene to try for the homozygous so I’m hoping this guy is more than only a mojave but I don’t have any real experience with mojave to say what their range is.

I'll get better pics out in a couple days.

    Thanks.

    Randy,

In my experience, wider spaces between dots are not that common. I have to say I have yet to own one. :)

I really like what you have, and I hope that there is something in there for you.

I does look like a reduced pattern, at least as reduces as a mojave ever gets. Looks like a good project animal.

Dark, do you have a pic handy?

Here is the sister I feel more sure about. Even wider dark pattern (I guess reduced or increased depends on if you count the dark or the light as the pattern) and more of the checkered white boundary up from the belly. Just wish this one was a male.

    Cool white sides!!!

I would say reduced pattern Mojaves are genetic in the sense that people breed for the trait.. (duh..)

    Amy's is really cool too...

    I want some :D

    Very interesting darkangel, thanks.

Laooda, yours is almost a dead ringer to mine. I don't think I can count on my male being the combo based on the broad pattern or the little bit of ragged white belly edge as I’ve now heard from several sources that isn’t so uncommon. He does look different than another brother that I'm more confident is only mojave but looks like they might well both be in the range of mojave.

Which leaves me still wondering what to breed mom to next year. I could breed her to that mojave son anyway just in case he has her mutation (calling it Garcia). Or now that I no longer think she is compatible with the white snake complex I could go with a pastel het ghost I have or arrange a breeding loan with a pinstripe I know of. Or a breeding loan to her only son that I'm confident got her mutation (but not Mojave which apperently might cover it up, and he is also an 08).

Here is a pic of mom with one of her daughters from last year.

Thanks Trevor, so was I. But every year I'm learning a little more. Eventually I’ll find out what the super Garcia (if viable) or now maybe mojave super Garcia will look like.

Here is a post shed pic of the male in question showing the white checking on his lower sides:

But he as no where near as much of it as his sister that I'm more sure is the Mojave Garcia combo:

Sorry, it looks like when I changed some photo names on my site these updated pics are now displayed in my original posts which I can't seem to edit any more to point to the renamed pre-shed pics.

Randy those mojaves are awesome... different than anything I've seen, different from the other mojaves posted on this thread by other users. No idea what to breed her to next time though... maybe a Woma ball?

    Re: Mojave Only?
    Thanks

The little male has eaten two small adult mice already and mom ate three retired breeder rats (two where huge males) in the last week (and went through a shed) so I might try them this winter. A lot will depend on if he gets big enough and if he looks to be something other than only Mojave as he grows. My main goal is to find out what a homozygous Garcia looks like but of course I want eggs first so if he doesn't look like he is ready I'll try some older males too and maybe find out what the pastel or spider combo looks like. Would eventually like to try a pinstripe in case she is a chocolate but don't yet own one of those. The wicked sibling girl will no doubt take years to grow up so I hope to know something before then from mom.

Can someone bring me up to speed on what a sable looks like (didn't see a hunter's guide)? Is there a super known? So far mom’s normal offspring have been very dark and the two this year (I never saw the ones last year in person) have her iridescence. Maybe she has more than one thing going on.

Randy first off nice mojaves. I believe you have something different there. Mojaves in the begining were known for the one eyed alein heads. Yours being spaced out is not normal. I am excited to see what happens with this project.
