    It's Official! Now a Question ;)
Haha my proud moment came this morning when Snikolas the Great, my lovely and usually ever so friendly BP tagged my NOSE. and i'm talkin like, the nicest tag in history. a love tap. he's in blue, so he's hissy pissy, but i decided to take him out and let him tool around my bed for a few while i misted his substrate, and let him stretch himself out, as his tank really is NOT big enough (we're workin on it). we hung out for a bit, and he seemed to be enjoying himself. as i went to put him back i gave him a once over, checkin out his belly and tail, and looking over the rough spots from the lamp burns from his previous owner. i found a lil flakey patch on his belly and was like "ooh, you'll be shedding soon". i was holding him pretty much in my face. haha. asking for it. i touched the flakey spot and no sooner did i touch that flakey spot did he bop my NOSE. haha. it left a tiny itty bitty pin prick and i KNOW i got lucky hehe. it startled me pretty bad but really didn't freak me out as much as i anticipated. i tossed him on my bed and got my nerves back (LOL... i wish someone could have seen the surprised look on my face) and promptly gave him back to his house. he slithered in his hide like "don't effin mess with me lady i got itchy skin and am not in the mood" and i went laughin down the stairs. awww. i feel like a real mom now, me and Snik got in our first fight ;)

so , how serious can a bite from a BP get?

have you ever had a BP bite and constrict on ya or do they simply tag you to tell u to leave them alone?

    thanks in advance!

Best to leave them alone while in blue as they are developing a new layer of skin and it can be delicate with the layer of fluid in between, causing for a poor shed.

The worst bite so far? My male rat tagged my on the tip of both of my forefingers, twice within an hour. They bled and bled, went really deep and hurt a lot!!! I cried a little because I was thinking we'd have to put him down.

In the end it was my fault for petting them through the cage wires. He thought he was getting a treat.

Snake bite? Nope, hasn't happened yet, not to worried about it either. They have tiny teeth. Although the blood tries to fling herself out of her tub on feeding day. Hopefully I wont be caught in the cross fire.

I'm a poor herper who forgot the cardinal rule of keeping snakes...when bit immediately run for a camera BEFORE you get the first aid kit!

Mike, my husband, got tagged by a big female BP last week. She didn't constrict but she did leave a perfect set of teeth impressions in his finger (and one tooth). He dripped a fair bit of blood on the BP room floor while getting her put away in her tub.

Bites happen but a lot of them are just minor things really. Some of them are closed mouth jabs meant to drive you back from them - just defensive deals really. Handling them in blue isn't a great idea and personally I avoid it as much as possible. Why ask for a tag I figure. :)

Haha...and squeeze the wound as much as possible to get the blood flowing (to flush out the germs, of course) before taking the picture!

hehe thanks for all the feedback, and i definitely hear how rat bites can be much worse! the worst animal bite i've ever gotten is from a rat as well! (not recently... it was a friends neglected male... it was sad...) newho, if anyone has pix of a bite that would be cool...

all i got from my "tag" today was a tiny itty bitty teeny weeny pin prick that after like a minute you couldn't even see unless i squeezed it.

i think what scares me the most about a a bite is if they decided not to let go!

I had a BP rescue try to eat my hand..

She would not let go for 5 minutes..

We had to get her under warm water, and pry her off with a pen.

The kid I got her from only fed her once a month one small mouse.. and she was an adult BP.

I was there, telling him that that was not appropriate, and he in turn said, yeah, she is a bit nippy. I never take her out..

I was like.. uh, okay.. BPs usually don't bite unless they need to.

And as I was holding her, not paying attention to her at all, and more to the conversation, I feel her bite me inbetween the thumb and forefinger... Yeah. Wrapped my arm up pretty good too.... and then proceed to try and swallow me.

    FUN TIMES!!!!!

It was pressure on the wrist, and a bit of stinging while being bit.

Afterwards was the worst, since she was trying to eat me, and was wiggling her jaw around to try and fit more of me in her mouth.

I had a couple of teeth in my hand for a long time, and a sprained joint.

But it hurts SUPER MUCH MORE WORSE to be bit by a Rat.

That is the best experience I've ever heard anyone share. That made my day.
I too was bit today by my ball for the first time. It didn't leave a slight mark, hurt, or even bleed.. O.o
He just was a little GET OUT OF MY HIDE because I was trying to readjust the probe to the thermometer under his hide.. he didn't seem too fond of that. Aha.
    :]

well rat bites suck bad and hurt something awful...

BP teeth stuck in your hand? yikes and ouch. like a splinter i take it? are the teeth TINY?

the sprained joint was from you being wrappeD?

sorry so many questions i'm really interested to know the details of this as the friends i have that are petrified of snakes are obviously afraid of getting eaten and i'd love to be able to throw all the details back at them like "this is about the worst of it bud"

    hehe thanks in advance!

This was a couple of years ago, but it was mostly bruising from the pressure, and a sprain in one of the fingers as well.

It hurt to move my hand for a week or two, but not so much that I had to go to a DR or not use my hand at all.. Just sore.

Teeth were very small.. Like tiny spinters. :)

I have a pretty high tolerance for pain, but I think the BIGGEST thing for most people is not the bite... It's the shock of being bitten. :O:D

I'm glad this thread got started. my wife has been worried about me getting bit. sounds like it's not too bad even from a adult. I so badly want to see pictures, just to get an idea.

if i took a picture of my nose you'd see uhm, nothing! it was a dot of blood like i barely had gotten pin pricked and i didn't even feeeeel it... like i did, but it wasn't pain or anything... just like... idk...

he didn't even bite me, just tagged me, and he knows i'm a human and not food so in retrospect if your snake is fed properly, it MUST know the difference between you and a rat, so constricting would be pointless. he struck at me out of agrivation, telling me to leave him alone. one tooth acctually got me, and BARELY.

    to your wifey:
don't be scared, girlfriend! Ball Pythons make lovely pets :)
