Is it true what they say about ASF's
I heard a lot of people saying that ASF have no scent gland which means they have very little or no smell in urine and feces. This means in stead of me cleaning the tank once every 2 weeks I could clean it once a month! So to anyone who owns ASF's do they have a strong smell if any.Would you recommend breeding them.
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
They still pee and poop the same amount, you need to clean their tanks every week like every other rodent. I think it's pretty nasty that you only clean a rats tub once every 2 weeks.
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
Isn't this in the wrong location post wise?
ASF have their own section
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
I didn't even notice what section this was in till now lol
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
Thread has been moved to the correct location.
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
They do smell a lot cleaner but you should really be cleaning their cage once a week at LEAST twice a month. D:
I mean.. they're basically mice and don't want to be in their own filth all the time.
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
The smell is minimum I clean my ASF enclosures every other weeks compare to every weeks with regular rats.
Re: Is it true what they say about ASF's
Yes, it is true that the smell is next to none. I clean the tanks as they need it.... not sooner then 2 weeks, not more then 3 weeks.

Maybe I'm more sensitive to their smell, cuz they still smell after a week LOL
Just differently than rats.

Ditto... I am an every two week ASF cleaner. I use the pellets for them and do not find that they break down near as quickly... nor do I have to water them as much... I take that to mean overall there is less urine production.
I clean the regular rats once a week.

I was convinced my first two weeks that I could smell them... maybe I just acclimated to them, but now I swear I smell nothing but blind rage coming from their enclosures. :)
