I think if you could survive in there I think the rats would, just make sure they have water & air circulating. They get real stinky when its hot.

Re: Rats can survive at 95
Try to put a fan in front of their enclosure to cool them down!

Re: Rats can survive at 95
Do your neighbors complain about the rat smell?
-
Re: Rats can survive at 95
Nope, not at all i cant really even smell them most the time, they have 2 fans on them so there ok and the air conditioning people are at my place right now fixing it so i might be able to sleep tonight

Re: Rats can survive at 95
We've been experimenting with rat heat exposure as well as it's been 100-105 in the afternoons here. Our rats are in the garage where it's not 100...but I'm guessing it's in the high 90's. Anywho, we have three fans blowing on them right and I fill their water bottles twice a day...
They look hot, but seem okay.
I have one mouse nursing a litter and she's inside. =)

Ick... not fun to be without AC over there in summer! Glad the rats made it through ok.
I keep a rotating tower fan on a timer in front of my rodent area from about May to September. :)

Re: Rats can survive at 95
yea i have a tower fan and a normal fan blowing on them, i just got a call and they are replacing the ac unit so its going to be a hot day for them, i hope they make it, and i also have a female with 7 pups, so i hope they will be ok :(:weirdface:tears:

Re: Rats can survive at 95
Watch that momma...I lost 3 nursing mothers (one rat and two mice) during the first heat wave in May...but granted we didn't have any fans going..

Yea i know its a dry heat and we both know thats crap still feels like we live in a oven !!!!

Re: Rats can survive at 95
Glad to hear your rats are ok, and that the AC is getting fixed. Having no AC is NO fun. I did it for 2 days last summer, and the weather wasn't as hot as what you are dealing with.
I'm not sure I believe the "dry heat" thing either. You might be more comfortable because the humidity definitely feels gross. But my personal experience tells me that 95 degrees that "feels like" 100 really isn't like 100 at all as far as making me feel sick.

Re: Rats can survive at 95
Yeah I feel ya...it hits 125+ every summer here. I dont know how Im gunna keep my temps down for the rats in summer.

At eight AM. Yeah if we can live through it, so can they. But good on ya for worrying like that. It says a lot about ya.

Keep rats cool, mist them down when its over 90, keep fans on them, and out of direct sunlight.

You live near death valley? I imagine the humidity is extremely low, and super hot. You'll likely have to deal with ring tail quite a bit with that low humidity, and expect seriously low litters if you can't keep them cool. (70's range)

Re: Rats can survive at 95
use lots of fans theyll be alright but you wont get many litters

I hope you did not take my post for me saying that you could just leave them. No that is not what I meant. But they can and do survive in extreme tempratures.
If you want a good read check out. Bilateral Lesion of Anterior Hypothalamus and Regulation of Body Temperature in Rats. Medicina et Pharmacologia Experimentalis 1967;16:355-364 (DOI: 10.1159/000137011)

I have surprisingly read that (or an article suspiciously titled closely), however, I still stand by my statements.

I do not deny that their tails have a great deal to do with their temp. Just throwing out information.
