I just bought the meanest snake ever!

Today I bought a year and a half old male atb. Ive been interested in them for months and today I decided to get one. I was thinking I was thinking I was going to get a baby buy I fell in love with this guy even though he tried to bite my face a few times in the store. I got him in his enclosure and he seems very nervous so Im ghoing to let him chill for a week and try handling. I would appreciate any comments or experiences about theses snakes. Pictures coming soon.

Tree Boas don't really like being handled and are more a Display snake.

Ummm, I don't think they really like handling; just hanging and chillin' :gj:
Don't they like super-high humidity also?

the boa may or may not like handling but i guarantee YOU will not like handling after trying to handle him. but most likely he doesnt like handling...

are the bites pretty nasty? Its cool if I have to end up just observing, he is a cool snake

hes also about 3 and a half feet I have him in a 18x18x24 is that an ok size and will I have to upsize?

Tree boas do have larger teeth than most boas as they do their hunting above ground and need to be able to hold the prey a lot better.

i would invest in a snake hook for this guy. do some more research on atbs man. they are really cool snakes to care for when you know what your doing.

Congrats on the mean pick up!LOL At his age, neither of you will probably enjoy handling too much if he's not used to it. Mine is much younger, and he's not too bad. Mist a couple of times per day to raise the humidity a bit. Spray around him, cause he will drink the water off of the glass, leaves or his own body. The make great display snakes.

thanks the place i bought him from one of the guys who worked there handled him alot. he took him out for me and held him and let me hold him it was the first time i had a snake strike at me like that. The first day i got him he was in the vines now for the past two days has been coiled in the corner is that normal?

Here is a link to some info that will give you an idea of what C. hortulanus need environmetally. I don't keep them, but do keep a cousin C. caninus, so I really can't give advice on care. Corallus.com is a board where many members keep them and can give you advice.
