Keeping a hide humid??

What is the best way to keep a hide humid?
Is moss or paper towels better? My local petstore only had frog moss, would that be ok to put in a hide?

I have no idea what frog moss is and some moss is toxic to snakes. I use long fiber Chilean sphagnum moss and the snakes love it!!! Moss is better than paper towels for many reasons, including that moss stays wet much longer!!!

i also really like spagnum, its great stuff! i also used it to fill in my snakes old hides to take up some empty space while i got him better hides. he really liked digging through it.

Ill have to find some sphagnum moss around here then. Much rather go with something that is known to be safe.

I just mist the paper towels when I need to raise the humidity

I've used both, but I liked the paper towels better because I could easily see any mold growth and just change out the paper towels.

Exactly, sometimes simple is good.

When I need to bump up the humidity ( only when sheding) this is what I do. I took a big sponge the kind you use to wash your car. i cut it in half, wet it down and i placed it in a plastic tupperware bowl and put it in the cage. Perfect shed every time.

Long fibre Chilean sphagnum (extra cushy) + dampened to the consistency of a well-wrung-out washcloth = GOLDEN! :)

Oh boy Kara, I got more of it online after my snakes blissed out on what you sent for them :love: Long fiber moss is totally the very best and so easy and much better than paper towels :gj:
