Mystery eggs are hatching, need help cutting
Hi everyone, my four mystery babies are hatching! :)

Two of them slit the eggs, I added some cuts no problem. One is out, the other looks like he/she is doing just fine and ready to pop out!

On the non-slit eggs, I tried to cut them as I have seen on many vids and books. I pulled up some slack and made a small slit. On both of them I saw some blood as soon as I did that (I think I nicked a vein).

Is this really bad? I just left them as is, what should I do?

    Thanks!

If they are due to hatch, nicking a vein is not a huge deal.

Candle your egg, and check to see if you can see veins, and cut around, if it concerns you :)

    Thanks Heather, candling worked well!

Pre-shed are the babies darker or lighter than they will be post shed? All the babies popping out look really really light....pastels??

    Lighter than post shed...

But they may be pastels if you bred to a pastel.. I can't tell you until I see pics ;)

That's the thing...I got this adult female and surprise, she turned out to be gravid. The previous owner has no idea what she was bred to, as he runs a huge business and one of his employees must have just tossed a male in there.

I did some googling and I'm pretty sure they are just normals. I will borrow a friends camera and hopefully get some pics up tonight! :)

keep a male back and a female back... does this guy do a lot of normal to normal breeding? if not i bet his worker threw in a recssive animal and you might have hets for a gene.

The "mom" is from Bruce Delles of Twin City Reptiles.

He works with several recessives so they could be "hets" for something, I highly doubt he bred any normal males.

So something might be going on there worth holding back and breeding :)

I'd say keep all the girls and a male.....assuming there is that option.

    Congrats on the clutch!

These little guys are tormenting me!

One is out and soaking up the yolk...

The other three have had their snouts poking out for almost 18 hours and are just sitting there! I assume that's normal...but hurry up already! :-)

Out as in out of the egg? Is the yolk sack still attached?

It's funny how sometimes you "forget" about the eggs for a few weeks and then hatching time comes and I personally get impatient :) and can't wait even one more day for a pip or for them to leave the egg :)

Then shedding for the first time, seeing their "true" colors, and then the anxiety of first feedings begins.....fun fun. :-D

Hi everyone, okay as promised here's some pics.

It looks like 4 normals to me...possibly het for something...but the total bummer is that I popped them and I think they are ALL males!

    Here's some pics:

    Nice!
Now if you pop them as males they are males ;)
    No doubt about it.
