First ASF litter - Thanks Ed
Last night when I came back from my vacation in DC, I came back to my first litter of ASF http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...appyDance2.gif (not really a surprise the female look VERY pregnant before I left)

    So thanks Ed ;)

As you can see momma is making the best use of the food dish!

I have not counted the ugly babies yet, however I messed around in the enclosure and pet my other ASF without any problem!

I guess they have not turned into those blood thirsty monsters yet. :8:

Welcome back Deborah! My babies are about a week old or so now! But they have them well hidden - and the male likes to nip.

Well for once no one wants to bite me , now the real test will be on cleaning day when I remove everybody ;)

I already did congrats on the other forum... but you have to admit the babies are darn ugly in a really cute way.

Always bizarre seeing their patterns from day one!

Congrats on the food... I mean pups... I mean feeders in a feeding dish... sad irony really. ;)

2 litters at the same time... nice. You will be run over in no time.

How many are you planning on holding back as breeders?

I think if anyone can tame the demons it would be you. :)

    Bruce

PS: I took your advice about holding onto their tails while handling them... works great. Keeps them in hand and keeps their faces away from tempting tasty fingers.

Probably 2.6 maybe 3.9 not sure yet (need to build a new rack), The plan is to switch most of my and likely the colubrids to ASF and keep regular rats and mice for hatchlings.

Congrats Deborah. My only question is, are you sure it is 2 litters? 25 is still possible for one litter.

p.s. I don't think they are ugly. I actually think they are cuter than regular rats.

i just got 2.3 of these guys, i plan on breeding them for the patchy color ( mottled?) With white and black, or really, any colors with white bits all over. They are so dang pretty that way!

Congrats on the litter! Hopefully in a few months, ill be there too! ( mine are still smallish, but i have one adult male, whos just got to wait his turn till his girls get old enough :)

Mine are all, while jumpy, handleable.( well see as they get older) The pretty male ive got is pretty easy going, he just dosnt seem to like being grabbed, then hell nip a little.

    ^_^ they are cute!

Yep 2 litters both females were due, I did not think they were so close from one another but apparently they were.
