    What do your BPs weigh?
    Hey ya'll :D

I finally got to weigh my BPs. :D And as silly as it sounds, I was all excited about it (still am ;) ). Anyhow being relatively new to having snakes I don't know what a good weight is. That's where I need ya'lls help :please:

Peyton my male BP weighs 429 grams (on empty) and he's almost a year old. He eats 2 large mice every 7 days.

Pie my female BP weighs 164 grams (also on empty) and she's about 4 months old. She eats 2 small mice every 7 days.

So what do your BPs weigh?

Does it sound like mine are on the right track as far as their weight is concerned?

I'd love to get your input.

    Holla ;)

Question, how do they eat 2 every 7 days? Do you just feed one, wait till its down in the tummy and then go for another?

She most likely means she feeds two mice in one sitting every seven days.;)

I feed them each one mouse and by the time the 2nd snake is eating the 1st snake fed is ready for the 2nd mouse. There has only been one time with each snake where they weren't interested in the second mouse ;)

Yep. You wait until they've readjusted their jaws and are searching around and then offer the next one. :)

Hmm, my BPs are various sizes and ages, but let's see...

My 13mth old normal female weighs 512g (finally over 500). And my 9mth old rescued pastel male is 260g. :D
The three adults haven't been weighed recently because I keep forgetting. I'll do it tomorrow and post their weights.

Hi Lena- it is my observation that they all grow at different rates. I have year olds and nearly year olds who range from a tiny 209g (problem child) to a hefty 1200g :O Most are in the 500-900g range.

Re: What do your BPs weigh?
They are variable in their weight...

I have two young snakes. One male that is a mid 07, and he is around 450g, and I have a late 07 female that is very small, she is just 160g.

I recieved three males, all late 06's, March of last year... all 3 were 350-400g.

Now those 3 males are 1000g, 1100g, and 1600g. The difference in the 1000g, and the 1600g is striking!

Sounds like yours are doing good, and having a good scale is criticial. If you ever need to see your vet, having feeding schedules and weights is great information to be armed with. :)

:) It's true, good record keeping is key. I made up a record sheet template that I just print up and enter in the specific snake's info on. Really helps to see how the snake is progressing, what they're eating, and frequencies of sheds and such.

:O WOW 1200 grams?! That sounds huge. I thought my male was big (compared to the female anyway) I just wanted to be sure that I'm on the right track with them.

BTW I love your observations! Your posts are always helpful and overflowing with info! ;)

    Thanks Starmom!!!

WOW! Is she full grown? As far as weight is concerned how much do males & females weigh (on average of coarse, I do realize it varies) once full grown?

What age is considered adult/full grown?

Sorry... Looks I had some questions left over

I am not at home but from memory My males are fairly small. 700g and 1100g.. they are 2-3 years old.

My females are heavier. 1200g (just laid), 1475g, 1600g, 1900g, 2000g, 2500g, 3118g. they are all in the 4-6 year old range.

A 3000g ball python is awesome! I just got her last month and before her I hadn't seen a ball over 2000g..

Is 3000 grams pretty much full grown? Or do you go by length to determine if a BP is full grown? So many questions

Adult really depends on who you ask, but if it can breed it is considered an adult...

I'd go with 1500 grams for females myself, and maybe 800 grams for males, but that is personal numbers...

Age is more important. 3 years is adult for me.

I got George Dec 15th, I have no clue what weight he was, but I took him to the vet cause he had RI. He was weighed at 220 grams in Jan.

I weighed him in the beginning of this month, he was 510 grams on an empty tummy!!!

    my 05's - 2000g+
    my 06's - ranging from 500-1200g
my 07's - one as little as 200g (picky eater), and one about to round the 800g mark (ravenous pig).

You'll have your basic rules of thumb for what a bp will weigh at a certain point in it's life, (unless its been severely neglected) but alot of it just depends on the individual snake and its eating habits.

    Hope that helps!

It sure does! I wish I would've weighed my bps when I got them :( but at least I can start tracking their growth now
I know my male has almost doubled in girth & length since I got him April (he too is a ravenous pig) actually they both have great feeding responses. My female is probably twice as big as when I got her too, but she's still sooo small compared to the male so its not as noticeable to me I guess. Having weights to compare will help greatly.

PS All of you are fabulous! I love it here ;)

Its hard to put a number on full grown. There is a post in the advanced husbandry forum where a 900g female laid eggs. I believe it was a fairly old snake that was wild caught and wouldn't put on any more weight so I guess you could say it was full grown. And then at the other end of the scale there are 5000g females..

edit: Just to note I wouldn't recommend breeding anything under 1500. However there are special circumstances..

:O WOW! I can't imagine my tiny 164 gram girl every getting to 3000 grams much less 5000 grams. Personally I like her the size she is now - so cute & little :D

Is 5000 grams normal? Or is it rare for them to weigh that much? How many pounds is that?

How many grams to an ounce? 28(ish), right?
16 ozs to 1 lb, right? Damn I hate math!!!!:rage::rage::rage:
