Just curious / (john?)
I love this site. I think the people running it have been doing a fantastic job. However, I can't help but notice lately that some moderators seem to be a little trigger happy as far as locking threads and banning members.
Kind of complicated really, because like I said I love this forum. I think it has been ran VERY well... Maybe I am just over reacting to recent things that have happened? What are your thoughts? Don't be afraid to vote your real feelings on this!!!!! There are good people running this site, and they are capable of taking feedback.
Sorry mods, didn't know where exactly this should have gone. Please don't ban me.

Re: Just curious
For the mostpart I think they do a great job. As far as John getting banned, all I can say is that I hope that decision was based on more than just the conflict tonight.

Re: Just curious
hmmmm... over 30 minutes, and 30 views and still no votes. This may be a poll where lack of votes speaks volumes.
You can't get in trouble for voting people!

Re: Just curious
Whoa, that's crazy. Can someone point me to the thread that caused all the trouble??

I would normally never quote myself in a gloating way but WOW!!!, I am a writer tonight!! check out some of my quotes on this subject from my Private messages!
"If you don't like disagreement, you should be reading a book, not a forum!"
"If one has to disclose that his joke is a joke when telling the joke, is it really a joke???"
"Forums are a delicate balance of information and enternainment. You can't get the information across if it is so boring that nobody wants to read it!"

30 views doesn't mean 30 different people. If you click into a thread 5 times, that's 5 views.
For what it's worth...regarding this topic... we will always openly accept criticizem to make Ball-Pythons.net a better place. If you have opinions, concerns, questions, comments..we would be happy to hear them. :gj:

John received a ban based on his accumulation of infraction points. It has nothing to do with any specific thread--the system automatically places the ban when a user accumulates a certain number of points: http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/a....php?f=89&a=15.

Re: Just curious
I personally haven't seen anything wrong with the way the mod's run the site. There are many forums on the internet available for people to join, if somebody doesn't like the way one is run they have a choice of not participating.
-
Re: Just curious
i havnt seen anything wrong with how the sites run, to be honest, i have been waiting for him to be banned for a while, it was based on more than just one thread if im thinking straight...
i think these mods do a good job keepin this place up, i know i wouldnt frequent it as much if it wasnt run smoothly like this... =]

Wow. Waiting on another member to be banned? What is you purpose in these forums? More importantly moderators, I would say that is a direct violation of rule :
Disrespect Toward Site -- 50 pts
Being aggressively critical about the site and/or its community, especially with the intent to discredit or undermine our purpose here.
Careful big guy... soon you will be voted off the island!
LOL... the vote just went up 3... come on now mods, You can't vote on this one!!! :)

Re: john?
he was banned, boo!i just read it in another post.he was a pretty cool guy.anytime i needed help he answered my ?'s.i hope it isnt permanent.

Re: john?
I'm sorry to hear that. I was trying to be witty in my last post in this thread and assumed a suspension may have occurred. I hope that he is able to return.
-
Re: john?
Uh oh. Another banning. While not shocking, I don't see where it was warranted. Am I missing the thread or was this done for some private message that wasn't well received?

Re: Just curious
Usually I'm quite happy with how the mods run this site. I even agree with Jasballs banning. His "humor" was anything but humorous most times. He's very knowledgable about his reptiles.
This site is a friendly site for the most part, it's not over-moderated, nor do the admin allow people to run wild either. It's a delicate balance. IMHO, if anyone thinks the site is over-moderated, they always have the option to not visit the site. Also, you posted a poll, but you've almost pushed that people vote a certain way, and implied that the members are afraid to vote. Not everyone stays up till the wee hours of the morning on the net. You posted this at 11:30pm, and it's just after 7am. Give people time to see it.
Understand, I'm not telling anyone to leave the site, but I don't see why if anyone thinks a site is unfair, they would stay and be unhappy, when there's plenty of other sites that might suit them better.

Re: john?
i think jas i a cool guy with lots of knowledge regarding bps. hope his ban gets lifted soon.

Re: Just curious
when i was new here, i got an infraction before cos i mentioned something..i think i just got used to other forums that were more no-holds-barred.
but the last two times i just got a warning for my violations. so i think they are more lineant now..i mean they couldve given me 2 more infractions for it.:)

1.) I am only attempting to give feedback to the moderators.
2.) I have no desire to leave the forum. I think this place is the best thing since sliced bread even if the mods have been a little trigger happy lately.
3.) I think that 33% of the vote is substantial for a subject like this.

Why do you think they've been trigger happy? From one thread? Please explain....

Re: john?
Pretty ridiculous if you ask me for voicing opinions. A guy asked for input, he gave it and everyone gets offended. Grow up people and take a joke.
-
Re: john?
NO, this is the thread that gave him the rest of the points needed to get banned. He had 2 or 3 previous infractions, and this single thread gave him the last 2 or 3

Re: Just curious
I hope his banning was based on more than the thread last night because I don't think that called for him to be banned.
However! His attitude and "joke" had gone too far. He should have been reprimanded, but not banned. The mods will do as they see fit. I know I for one, would not have liked him coming onto my board and telling me to cut my pet's head off and then saying it was a joke. :colbert:
-
Re: Just curious
He was banned on an accumulation of infraction points. So no, it wasn't "that one thread".
-
Re: Just curious
As was previously stated Johns bann was due to a collection of infraction points he had received from multiple posts/threads or multiple infractions in a single post.
The staff tries very hard to keep a fair and even keel when it comes to how we over see the site. remember that you must receive 100 infraction points before getting a temp bann. John had reached this limit so to be fair our rules which he knows say that a bann is the result of his actions. It was not a malicious act by the staff or some sort of vendetta towards John but merely a direct result of his disregard for the site rules.

Re: Just curious
I personally wasnt a fan of how Jas presented his information. He has a lot of knowledge on BP's, breeding, care, and everything else that deals with snakes... With that said hes still a member and still needs to follow the rules we all abide by. For someone whose an adult he failed to show his maturity several times.
I admitt that I get off this forum after reading some posts biting my lip and saying things that would get me banned here... Difference is I don't post them here bc I'm an adult and thats how an adult handles a situation. If I posted everything I thought I would have been banned quite some time ago. Jas is stongly set in his views and voicing his opinion but there comes a time where you need to draw the line.
I didnt get in on the post he was banned from but I do support Jas' original advice to put the deformed babies in a freezer... he clearly stated his comment was a joke and after reading his post there was no room for misjudgement... it was a joke.
The Mods here have had issues with me in the past which is fine... not everyones going to like me and I'm not going to like everyone, I understand that... with that said I do my best at keeping my personal views to myself and making sure what I post is not going to get me in trouble... thats how an adult is supposed to conduct themselves and multiple times Jas failed to conduct himself in such a manner... you play with fire, its only a matter of time before you get burned.

You can see the posts that earned that last infraction points, they are the ones with a red square in the bottom corner of the post.
He already had 90 or so, so the last were just enough.

Re: john?
yeah. i think that was a petty reason to get an infraction.. i mean, he was asking for opinions. and jas only made a joke about cutting its head. there are more brutal ways of aministering euthanasia like the the cranial concussion.. and it is an accepted way.
maybe the guy asking just got really sensitive about the situation?
well i just hope his ban gets lifted soon.

There was a post that was (understandably) deleted. Funny how three little words can cause so much trouble!

Re: Just curious
IMO, anyone that sees someone asking for help on how to deal with a difficult situation, and thinks the best response is a "joke" that involves cutting off heads, could probably use some sort of sensitivity training.
However, that "joke" is not what received the infraction points that resulted in the ban. So all of you saying "he only made a joke", if he ONLY made the joke, there would be no problem.
As has been pointed out, john/jasballs did not get banned due to that one thread. He has gotten infractions before, and it was the accumulation of those points that resulted in the ban. If you don't understand how that works, go read the post that explains the infraction system that has already been linked to in this thread.
I do think it is unfortunate that apparently the thing(s) that pushed him over the top have been deleted. This results in people who are wondering what happened, being able to find only this "joke" and the 2 pt name calling. No wonder some people think the mods are being too trigger happy.
Now, I didn't see the deleted post, I'm only going by what others have said about its existence. But I wonder (and have wondered in similar instances in the past) if it would be better to leave the post, even if the contents had to be deleted. It is not uncommon to see posts edited by the staff with a note like "part of this post has been edited to conform to the TOS". Maybe the staff could say "the entire contents of this post has been deleted due to inappropriate content". That way it makes it easier to understand that the poster brought this upon themselves, rather than the mods being trigger happy.

He got the points for name calling... not for making a joke. He had 90 points already for many months now and going into this thread.
Am I the only one who looks at how many infractions people have?

my purpose? to seek information that i dont understand, and to help others that need it.
now, my reasons for kinda waiting on it, he was constantly making jokes, starting arguments, continuing arguments even beyond what was funny, i was personally annoyed, idk how alot of others felt about it. i never saw the post that caused the final banning, all i can recollect from is the continuous "jokes" and stuff that was coming from him.
also, just because i say i was waiting, does not mean it was like "oh i hope he gets banned" heck no, im not like that, more or less it was a "eek, he just say that?" or "what was his purpose in saying that?" stuff like that, i knew that eventually his comments would catch up to him - not to mention, sometimes even tho i get his jokes, and most of us regulars get the jokes, the new kids/people dont understand that that is just how he is, and he is kidding... so... yah know...
ohh, and personally, i did think he was very knollageable or however you spell that... and he gave me some great feedback, but that does not change anything when the added up infraction points get to the banning point

Well, if we told you, we'd get infraction points ourselves... I'll just say it's not something you'd want you're children repeating:rolleyes:

Re: john?
John was very close to the limit of infraction points as Connie mentioned. The mods/admins here are very conservative when handing out infraction points, but the fact remains that John is an 'R' rated user in a 'PG' rated forum. He is very helpful, but can be a little too colorful at times which can add up the infraction points.
The infraction system was put in place in order to be as unbiased as possible to ALL users. If anyone has any questions or concerns regarding the infraction system, please feel free to PM a mod or admin.

I look at them too. He had over 90 about 95-96 I think?, incurred two more on this thread... http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/s...ad.php?t=68619
And now is suddenly up to 151??? The only way that could have happened would be to earn one of the 50 point infractions of either disrespecting a mod or disrespecting the site. Since It can't be found on the forums it would either be a post that was deleted or something in pm. It's a shame.....

Probably. You have posted that you come from a family of Po Po. :D

yeah. he is an 'R' rated user but it is quite entertaining.. wont the forum become boring if people here all act too 'PG'? just a question though...

Re: john?
the forum isnt here to be entertaining its here to be informative so no it wont be boring being PG. Lets not all be blind here and make it seem like Jas was an angel that got banned bc of 1 post or 1 comment. Plain and simple... were all adults... if you want to act like a child then go play on a play ground.
