Re: Opinions wanted please..
Very nice design! Your website has a unified feel to it, and your animals are displayed both clearly and concisely. It looks professional; you have kept the website streamlined to reflect your business. Some people make the mistake of getting sidetracked with other 'stuff', and it ends up becoming distracting (or downright confusing) to potential customers.
I do have a couple suggestions;
1) Please make sure each page is formatted for standard screen and widescreen viewing. If you are going to use floating frames, make sure they are aligned 'center'. For the most part your site looks fine, but this is what I see when I view the "links" page: view a screen capture
Also, be sure to check how your site looks in various browsers and screen resolutions.
2) Your explanations of each animal and the introduction to your business outline are really good, but I feel the level of professionalism you could otherwise project is marred by improper grammar and punctuation. Using series of "..." and inappropriate hyphens can be distracting. You've obviously taken care in creating a beautiful visual outlay, but I think you can still match it in written content.
3) I just noticed that you've elected to use image files in place of direct text. That will make editing and updating more of a challenge. Online business' with changing stock and quantities usually chose to keep their text in pre-sized frames for quick access and ease of future updating. However, if you feel more comfortable with using image files, that's fine too. Just be aware that it may become much more time consuming when you have a lot of updates to do!
Please understand that I am offering these suggestions only as constructive criticism. I hope something I've said will help you in the future. Your animals look fantastic! Great job. :gj:

Re: Opinions wanted please..
BT, very clean, very professional, well written. I do like you color scheme, subtile but effective.
I would suggest that you ask others about needing to click through your "tems and conditions" before you get to the pics of your available animals. I think it would be better positioned after someone decides that they are serious about one of your animals. Might just be me . . .
All together a great website!

I appreciate your feedback...
1. - I see what your saying and I'll pass that on to my buddy who did the work for me (snake for website trade)...
2. - I did write everything you see in the site - Took the pics too - So Thanks...But the improper grammar and the hyphens are how I write...I have always use the "..." in everything I write with the exception of documents that I write at work that have the possibility of being read by the FDA...
3 - I have no idea what your talking about...LOL...I'm no web guy but I am lucky enough to have my friend (Jeff Poe) update and maintain the site for me...I do know he used Dreamweaver to create it...
Constructive criticism is a good thing - Thank you...

Will do Alice...The thinking behind that was - I see alot of times people claim to have not seen the seller's TOS before they buy an animal - This way I have that covered...
Thanks again everybody -

Very nice BT...awesome pics!

Re: Opinions wanted please..
Wow, BT, honestly, not what I expected! Its very clean, very easy to use.
I like the way that when you hover over your collection pages, it tells you info about the species....genius.

Re: Opinions wanted please..
I have many praises- a lot of them others have mentioned. I like the way it is written and the verbiage that was used. I like the feel of the site. I like that it si clean and uncluttered.
One glaring change that I would make is on the 'Collection' page: Please consider putting the headers above the pictures. This is the way our brains work and would be helpful to see the header at the head and the pictures in the category below the header. On the 'Available' page you have the header and then the info correctly and logically placed.
The other thing is just my own thing and I just know I'm going to be flamed, char-broiled over this but... The Confederate Flag.
Okay so before you clobber me, I will say that I was born in Pennsylvania, lived a bit in Connecticut, grew up in Maryland, lived several years in Virginia, and went to an awesome bluegrass festival in Union Grove, North Carolina for several years. My second favorite place on earth is western Kentucky. That explained, the confederate flag, for me, represents oppression and hatred and intolerance.
BT, I am not suggesting that you espouse such ideology, but I am wondering if you might be off-putting a segment of potential customers with the inclusion of a flag that stirs such negative emotions in a large sector of the American population.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way.................... :) I wish you knew me... Maybe I ought to have pm'd this to you.... crap.

I'm a Yankee trough and through! I hate dumb people regardless of there race, or religion.. I saw the flag and just knew it would be brought up by someone. I say KEEP it. I like it and it stands for MANY things other then slavery now. Bt. Rock out with your confedirate flag out!!:gj:
-
Re: Opinions wanted please..
I love it BT....The logo is great too.
I understand what Starmom is talking about the Stars and Bars...but the rebel flag is synonomous with the South.
and after all, you are "BT..the rebel from the South"!

I guess I need some schooling then. What else does it stand for except to espouse the ideology of the confederate army?

That was mean John and I don't deserve it.

Re: Opinions wanted please..
I have to side with starmom on that one. It seemed like an awfully rude comment for a minor disagreement. The confereate flag can be both good and bad. It does represent both the good attitudes of the southern folks as well as the ignorant attitudes of some. BTW, I'm a Yankee.
-
Re: Opinions wanted please..
Very well done website BT. I don't see a problem with the flag being on the site, you are in fact "The rebel from the south...". It may have a negative history, but in this case I really think it's just a symbol for southern pride.
If people don't realize you're just a good ol' boy trying to breed and sell snakes, and that the flag has no other meaning behind it for you and your business, maybe thats not the type of customer you want anyways. From talking with you, you're definitely a good guy, and I say keep the flag.:gj:
Sometimes the oversensitivity and over analyzing gets down right ridiculous. You can't always please the masses, do what you want to do and call it good! :gj:

Re: Opinions wanted please..
I don't see a problem with the confederate flag at all, and think it should stay. I do see where some people have a negative viewpoint on the flag, but for the most part, I don't see where it should have a negative connotation at all. But again, you aren't going to please everyone with anything in this country anymore, thats what drives me nuts, freedom of speech is slowly getting taken away.
But good work BT, love the site, I don't see where anything should change, its you.
-
Re: Opinions wanted please..
Wow. :O It looks top notch BT! But like a few pointed out, maybe put the labels above the species picture in the collection page. I was confused for a minute.
I like the rebel flag, very southern of you!
-
Re: Opinions wanted please..
Very professional, I think the TOS should be after a sales decision like Alice said. Otherwise it is very well laid out and clean.
Best of luck with it brother:gj:

I didn't take it the wrong way...I live in Kentucky but was born and raise in Louisiana...To me the flag represents Southern pride, Southern life and like Charlie said - Is synonomous with the South...Believe me - I had these dicussions and talks about the flag with a few other people that I consider my good friends and I'm sticking with it...If it cost me a few bucks in sales - It's all good and I'm fine with that...If people want to stereo-type me over a logo or a name it's cool - A couple of things I'm not - Politically correct and fake but I do keep it real...
I hear ya about the headers below the collection -Thanks...

Re: Opinions wanted please..
Thanks BT for not taking what I said out of context or being stupid about it, since that is not what I meant.
Also, thanks for explaining to me what the confederate flag means to you and why you would put it on your site. I don't need to agree or disagree but it is nice of you to explain :D

Re: Opinions wanted please..
Looking Good BT! You have a really Nice Collection!!!

Re: Opinions wanted please..
nice site. I like it. simple, clean but eye catching. I gotta get dreamweaver to work on my site, it really does create great looking sites. good job.

Re: Opinions wanted please..
First thing I noticed was I had to really pay attention to the logo to read it. Something about the flag colors and the white letters, the shading on the letters, and the shading on the flag all make it blend together just a bit. Wondering if there's some way you can make it more contrasting.
Next up is the 5 stars, it's driving me crazy that the last star is farther away from the first four. :P
The photos are AWESOME and I love the collection... very nice animals... I also agree that the headers for each species should be above the images. My little brain got confused especially when I was scrolling. ;)
On the Available page I didn't even realize that Available bar was a link to another page... even though it says it, I didn't read it the first time. I assumed there was nothing available... whoops! I think the animals should show up immediately when I click the Available link on the top menu. I think it's a good idea to have the terms up there but I don't have any good suggestions about how to be absolutely sure it isn't missed other than what you have already done.
All in all it's awesome and I love all the animals. You rock!

Re: Opinions wanted please..
Page looks good. BTW, that lesser is HOT!!

Re: Opinions wanted please..
Looks good, glad to see someone suporting the south.

Great looking site. Don't change a thing :D

Re: Opinions wanted please..
BT I like the site very nice :gj:
The confederate flag could be a selling point as well as a turn off but it seems you're ready to deal with it. Hopefully a person's reputation, service, and animals outweigh their choice in logo though, rock on!

Re: Opinions wanted please..
That flag may or may not stir up some controversy.

Only in America can a man rise from such humble beginnings as a boy living on poke salad to become a nationally known co-host of a radio program that has its finger on the pulse of one of the world's most fascinating hobbies.

Re: Opinions wanted please..
That's as basic and as easy to understand as it gets.... also very professional and slick looking. Everything I like in a site. And importantly, your photos are first class!
I wish my sight looked that good! :)

Good points - I think my boy fixed the star (good catch by the way) and the letters...I had him change the set-up on the Available page too...Another good point - I sure wouldn't want people to glance at it and think nothing was available...Thanks Diana (and Alice and Raul) -
Thanks again everybody - Much appreciated...
