You won't believe this!!

I went catfishing the other weekend and all of a sudden, a large mouth bass weighing approx. 1 pound, jumps out of the water chasing a smaller fish....waaam!!! a northern water snake jumps out and grabs the big bass!!! The snake was approx. 36 inches long....I could not resist catching the snake, once i had the snake, the snake let go of the bass......I felt bad for making him lose his meal, so my friend grabbed the bass and we put both the snake and the bass in the boat that was sitting on the shore.....we left the snake alone and checked on it every now and then.....when all was said and done, the snake consumed the entire bass and was so swollen it was unreal!!! I could not get good pics since it was dark after the snake finally swallowed the fish....anyway, I hope you as much of a kick out of this as I did!!

cool! those water snakes have quite the temper huh? My first snake bite was from a northern water snake back in the day... ;)

They are not venomous.

I had a water snake many years ago, very cool watching him chase goldfish.

Yes they can be very aggressive, and I have been to that island where Mike row was, and I have collected those same snakes!!!, I even got in a small boat, drifted about 20 yards off shore, and watched the water snakes emerge from the rocks and crevices to swim out to where we were...then they would dive down and stay under water for about 3-5 minutes before coming up with a gobie in their mouth, "mud-fish"......then they would swim back to shore and climb up on the rocks to consume their meal!!! It was like I was watching national geographic except alot cooler!!!
