    Albino red tail
I went into one of our local pet shops today and they had an albino red tail. It was a little over three feet and they wanted $1499.00 for it. Is this normal?

Normal if it is a coral albino. If it is a kahl then no.

$500 sounds like a good price.....$1400 on the other hand, no. Unless it was a coral.

    Re: Albino red tail
i didnt notice the first time it was 3ft.eh,i dunno still seems kinda steep even for a ready to breed alb rtb.and if you want to see a coral look it up.i think the difference from the two is the coral is more red than orange, dont quote me on this though

    Butters,

I'm sure Jimi is more than certain what a coral albino is/looks like, but is asking Andrew his definition----as in seeking clarification.

As I'm still learning the different ball and boa morphs, I'd be interested in the answers, and if you could, a picture.

In MY newbie opinion, the only reason to mark up a boa THAT much, is b/c they "might" get that sort of money. Around here, it would have to a pretty damn special albino for that price. Otherwise, $4-500. Now if it's breeding SIZE and weight, then it would go for around $900-1K (around here).

But I'm always listening and trying to learn........

In all honesty I am not very good with the different genetics. You know a lot more about it than me. All I know is they are different lines. Or is a coral a specific line of Kahl? I'm just not that knowledgeable about the boa morphs.

    Okay then Jimi- school us.
    Coral? Lipstick? Kahl? Sharp?
    What gives??
Bonuses to any of them? Negatives to any?

Why do all music videos from the 80s make me feel slightly uncomfortable?

Kahl Strain Albino (aka Original Strain) has many different "lines" to it. A coral albino is a Kahl Strain Albino that has a distinguished look to it:

Other than a "normal" Kahl Strain:

That coral is sweet. I have only seen ads for them where they had a much higher cost than a regular albino. Boa pricing is not as insane as bp pricing that's for sure. If a bp looked like that it would be 5k probably. I know that some are up there pricewise, but still more reasonable.

    Whoa- giant difference :O
So what's the lipstick line? Is that Kahl too?

    Re: Albino red tail
Yes, lipstick is a Kahl Strain too, just a nickname for that particular "line" is all. Each line is usually done through selective breeding to fine tune a certain aspect or trait that the breeder decided to enhance upon.

So I went back to the same store today and it's just an albino. Today it had so many MITES it looked like someone spilled pepper on it. They had something mixed up in a garden sprayer and was soaking it down.

I'm not surprised at all. This is why so many members on this forum and others strongly suggest purchasing snakes from breeders.
This is boa season and I'm fairly certain that Jimisnakes.com has albinos.... :gj:

It shouldn't need to go to a vet just for mites. But I agree, I hope they do the right thing for it and get rid of those mites!

Jimi, thank you for the mini lesson on boa morphs! That pic of that coral head was awesome! Do you have one (or a link to one) of the whole snake? What's the point of looking at a boa when you can't see it's tail? :P
