    Mouse bit my ball
I was feeding Mickey (my ball) a live mouse tonight and he struck it in a bad spot. It looks like the mouse may have bitten him, but nothing too bad. Is there anything I should do to prevent infection or should I just let him heal by himself? There was a tiny bit of blood where the bite was. He still ate the mouse, too.

Sounds good to me. It was really weird. I have fed him probably 10 times now since I got him and this is the first time it hasn't gone well.

I have some of those too but they were in my bedroom under my bearded dragons viv. It happened so fast that it probably wouldn't have mattered but I am going to keep them close by now when I feed Mickey.

I did the f/t mice for the first few feedings but my daughter really likes to pet the mice before we feed them to the snake. I will probably try to switch back to f/t once I start feeding larger prey. My ball is still pretty young so I don't have him on rats yet.

I get the joy out of watching my snakes eat, even if it is f/t. An eating snake is a happy snake.

safer because the dead animal obviously won't be biting yer snake ;)

and i think they meant nasty as in the rats fight back!

I feed live and frozen thawed and both are just as safe when done properfly. I don't think the prey lasts more than 10 seconds usually when I feed live. I wouldn't say it was WAY safer but feeding f/t does have the added benefit that you know a bite can't happen.

thanks but I would like to hear their response. ;)

and actually a 'dead animal' can cause damage.

fyi...my rats don't 'fight' back at all..they go in and they are hit and constricted within seconds.

i know that f/t can blow up with nasty goo, yuck!i also noticed wen the mice or rats are bein constricted they try to breathe not bite.im sure it does happen here and there.i seen blood on the side of my bp a few times but it was cause the mouse was bleeding from the mouth.

If you buy from a reputable supplier. thaw your items correctly, and check your f/t prey before you "serve" them, the blow out is extremely rare.

I've been using f/t for over 4 years now, and I've never had a blowout. The nose tips of my rats sometimes bleed, but I have no gore.

True. I had to take a ball python in to the vet once for a lip cut from a f/t rat claw.

Maybe I am a loser for this, but does anyone else think it's cool when their thread gets to a second page? By the way, Mickey seems totally fine now that he's had a day to chill after he ate.

Your snake was eating F/T and you switched to live? Some people have a very hard time getting a snake to take FT. For what my opinion is worth which isnt much if your snake will eat FT keep it that way. The pros far outweigh the cons when compared to live feeding. No risk of your snake getting bit, no live rodents to tend to in your house, very convenient in every way. If all your snake will eat is live then you have no choice.

I just started feeding my ball small-medium rats live and everything has went great. The occasional kicking and screaming, but like the one person said in the earlier post..its over in a matter of seconds. I think if you feed live prey, as long as it's done responsibly and with a little knowledge on what size to feed your ball, then it usually always goes good. Snakes have had millions of years + evolution to perfect hunting prey. Lack of knowledge & responsibility can definitely be a key factor in snakes getting injured while feeding live ( and im not saying you were irresponsible in feeding your snake ) ;) :snake:

I've always fed my corn live, because honestly I've never heard of frozen. Never had a problem. Now with my young boa, they no longer sell live baby mice locally, so I had to get used to feeding FT. I tried the corn on FT, she will eat either way.
