    Some fish we caught
Well Kristy and myself went fishing on 5-24-2008 and here is a pic of one of the fish we caught. We caught a total of 9 but 6 of them were huge :O.These are all male bluegill(6 pic coming soon lol) and i can not wait to catch some of the females from this lake.Normaly the males are smaller and go make the beds for spawning then the females soon follow :gj:.So here is the first pic. http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...thons/fish.jpg

That thing is huge! biggest I have seen of that species!

I would post some pics of results from some of my fishing adventures... but it wouldn't be fair to you middleofthecountryers. We don't fish less then 30 miles off shore any more....

As much as I enjoy the midwest, and believe me I do in all of it's Corn-Glory and blistering winters, I would love to have access to fresh sushi on the coasts.....hmmmm.....for that I am definitely jealous.

I have to post at least one... After all fishing is my favorite thing next to snakes and scuba.

This is a 60 + lb Wahoo that I caught 35 miles offshore Jacksonville last year. It is like the 2nd fastest fish in all the oceans. It destroyed the drag on my $120 dollar reel, and burnt my thumb bad enough to take 3 weeks to heal. One of the best fights / meals EVER!!!!! For the size comparison, keep in mind, I am 6'3'' and 280 lbs.

Agreed, except for the part about them not getting very big. I have gotten some over 10+ inches. Every time I go fishing and think im going to get a nice big trout its just a bluegill :( What I hate is they make me waste so much bait because every time you throw a line out you end up pulling in a bluegill 60 seconds later. I know alot of guys that just toss them over the hill when they catch them to try to control the population... Even the big ones are too much to mess with for the little fillets IMO. I tried to get some fillets one time from a huge one but when I cut in it was basically a hollow void... Now for the catfish, is there an easy way to fillet them? I always figured the spikes (or whatever you call them) would get in the way

BTW, those look like some nice big ones that could provide decent fillets if you know how to do it (unlike me). I would much prefer those morels though. I havent picked any in 2 years but they are the best!!

Yes you can filet cat fish and bass as long as you have a SHARP filet knife and a steady hand(shaky hands cause lost fingers lol). Its been several years since i found morels :(.

I guess i was taught the old school way when it comes to catfish.... it requires a large hook attached to a chain.... and a pair of plyers.

nice thing about those of us that live on the great lakes- you can usually find a friend/ relative with a salmon boat! it may not quite measure up to salt water fishing (ok, so its still a ways off ) but pulling in 25lb Kings is pretty fun if you get the chance!

Nice fish! I miss fishing actually, I haven't done a lot of fishing since I moved out of OK. Having a pond in your backyard with bluegill, bass and catfish in it makes it so easy...

If I knew somebody with a boat I'd be interested in going out. As it is, I suppose I could drop a line in the rock river...but I'm not sure I'd want to eat anything out of it.

I live in Rockford. In theory, I could go down behind the library with a bucket, bait and a fishing pole and sit on the bank. I've seen people out there fishing...dunno if they caught anything.

thats the problem with my job, its got me all into the big salmon/ trout already! i have an internship with one of the tribes up north, so i do all sorts of commercial sampling and studies right now. my only thought the first trip out this year was 'man, i really want to catch this guy on rod and reel' as i pulled 20+ lb trout out of trap nets.....
