Ralph is currently seling lessers from his original platty daddy for about twice the cost of a regular lesser.

    From his site

Description: 2007 - 4.0 Lesser Platinum ball pythons. Some of these Lessers are from a Platty father and they are priced higher because of that. The Lesser Platty is a co dominant mutation and produces one of the whitest, blue eyed ball pythons on the planet!! .....and that is the SUPER LESSER!! You can see pis of the Super Lesser produced in 2007 - 07 clutch # 23
Price: Males from Platty- $2,000.00 each
    Males ( regular ) - $1,000.00 each

They are so much because they might carry the hidden gene for the platty daddy right?

Im going to have to go with jasballs answer, I doubt Ralph would mention them begin related to the platty and price being higher if nothing special was going on with them.

Is there any reason why you would say NOPE! choas???

And I'm going to have to go with Chaos on this one. If the theory that the hidden gene is an allele of the platinum complex of mutations is correct (and thats the theory that I personally believe to be correct,) then there is no way that a lesser from platty daddy could carry the hidden gene.... if it did, it wouldn't be a lesser, it would be an actual platinum.

Maybe we will get someone to shed some more light on the matter? I see what your saying though, that only the sibs can carry it?

    like i said NOPE!!!!!!!!!
I in fact do have a platty sib the true only way to get a platty

if a lesser from platty daddy could produce a platty don't you
think it would have by now since other have lesser from platty daddy........ so Jas i hate to say your wrong but your wrong......
until you prove me wrong and we know that wont happen!
I've done so much research on this project to see what works and what won't .......

    Re: Lesser Plattys
It all comes down to what makes a platy. I think we would generally agree it's a lesser plus something else but the nature of that something else is in dispute.

Years ago I originally agreed with the idea that the "hidden gene" might be something recessive. If you still agree with that theory you might be willing to pay extra for a lesser from Platy daddy.

But then someone from Taiwan who posts under the name hahaman came up with the idea that the hidden gene might be another mutant allele of the same gene as lesser. At the time there wasn't much evidence to go on but breedings reported over the years since have supported this theory and it's the one I now favor. Both the lack of reports of platy from ANY lesser x lesser breeding and the report of butter daddy without inbreeding strongly support (but don't prove) this theory.

The upshot of this allele theory is that no lesser could carry the extra gene to produce a platy (because if it did it would already be a platy). That hidden gene must come from a platy or it's descendent down a line with no just plain lessers directly in the line. Basically to produce a platy you need lesser on one side and the hidden gene on the other side. If one parent is a platy it's self (not something many people have to consider right now) it can give either the lesser version OR the hidden version of the gene but not both because, in this theory, they are two versions of the same gene.

I'm not wrong.. I just read it WRONG! The lessers are priced higher because they came from a platty.. My Bad!

I thought the hidden platty gene was is the normal looking sibs from a platty breeding then bred to a lesser.

    Re: Lesser Plattys
your correct. when a platty breeds a normal you get lessers and platty sibs

as randy said the lessers can not contain the gene as they would already be plattys if they did.

the normal sibs are the ones that carry the gene.

a lesser to a platty sib breeding can create a platty

Ralph also made a platty from a lesser or platty ( cant remember) to a sib sib ( result of a platty sib x platty sib breeding)
