Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Question.. so the air bubble thing... do you just assume based on how the eggs are laying that the air bubble will be sitting on the side you see?
Love the vids...keep the snake bytes coming Brian

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
EXCELLENT episode Brian! I really enjoy the visuals! This would benefit the most experienced keeper, to a complete newbie to the breeding scene! A++!!! :gj:

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Josh,
That's a great question, if the clutch looks like it hasn't been rolled around by the Mom I normally don't candle them, but if I'm not sure, I candle to check where the bubble is. Tune in next week when we talk about candling:) One last thing is that it takes anywhere from 6 to 20 hours for the bubble to adhere to the egg, so they can roll around a bit right after they're laid. Thanks, Brian(BHB)

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Very nice. I never get tired of seeing eggs. Nope, NEVER!!!
I also still have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard at Chewy artificially inseminating eggs.

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Awsome show!!
I've never heard that you have to open the egg box every day to ventilate the air?

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Excellent education. I have always wondered how you get the eggs out of the tub and just a visual for how it's done. You provided it with this weeks episode and I feel a lot more confident for next season in this area. Can't wait to see the follow-ups to help round-out my education.
BTW- Dr. Chewy was pretty funny ;)

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Hi Brian - great video (as always!). I noticed that you didn't use Hatchrite for the corn snake eggs. Do you primarily just use it for bp eggs? I'm using Hatchrite this year for my first bp clutches, and I have to say I love it!
-
Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
I use Hatchrite mainly on my Pythons just because of the amount that we go through on colubrids. I love hatchrite, but the cost is hard to absorb on the colubrid colony. They need to sell it to me cheaper:)
hey Burnzie, I'm not sure if it counts as a hit or not??? If Arti helped collect eggs we'd have verfy few eggs and one really fat Husky.lol She's great!! Brian(BHB)

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
But what about the opening of every egg box every day? never heard of that, and I'm getting my first clutch in 2 weeks

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
i think when brian opens his boxes it's because ppl in their incubator have the fan to circulate the air and their boxes usually have holes for airflow, but he said he uses the closes air boxes so the air would get stale with no flow, so he just opens each box to make sure fresh air gets in there..... am i learning brian?? haha

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Brian, how do you incubate your colubrid eggs and at what temp?
I used to incubate mine in an incubator at a constant 82 degrees and had good hatch rates, however the last few years I've just been putting them in an egg box and placing them on a high shelf in my snake room where the temps are around 80 degrees but can fluctuate a bit. (which is probably more natural for colubrid eggs) I still get good hatch rates this way but have noticed that I seem to get more deformities as well. So, do you use an incubator for colubrids and keep a constant temperature or let the temps fluctuate a bit?

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Burnzie!!!! Way to go, I couldn't have explaned that better myself! It's true a lot of people have holes in their boxes and don't need to check them everyday like we do here. I just like looking at the eggs everyday to make sure everything is going well. If they need a little more humidity, I can add water, if they seem too moist I can dry them out a little. I call it egg management, you won't save a ton of eggs, but even if it's a couple a year it's worth the effort???
We do incubate colubrid eggs on the top of our racks in the colubrid room, but the temp is very constant in there at 82 degrees, so it's really like an incubator in a way. Thanks, Brian(BHB)

Re: SnakeBytesTV-Eggs!!!!!!!!
Okey, so it's not doing the eggs any harm if I open the egg box once a day to check on them and to give them fresh air?
Good to know, Thanks for the reply!

Tried to comment on YouTube, and just don't have the hang yet, but wanted you to know that I've viewed all of your episodes.
Thanks so much for the hard work on the SBTVs. Chewie is a hoot!! And I appreciate your comments about the eggs and hatching. Good information for us newbies, still waiting for that first clutch.
Keep up the good work!! :gj::gj:
Can't wait for the "hatching" episode!:please::banana:
