Sterilite discontinuing tubs?

I heard thru the grapevine that Sterilite is discontinuing the 6qt tubs...

I have a couple people looking into it and waiting to hear back from Sterilite themselves, but does anyone have any info on this, or have been able to find the 6qts recently?

One of my area Walmarts stop carrying them, another still has them, I guess I better scoop them up while I can.....

Sterilite makes several styles of the 6 qt tubs. I haven't noticed any shortages where I shop, However I did notice that the clearview storage boxes have been removed from their website. The latchtop boxes and the basic storage boxes are still there though. That would be a pain in the butt if they are discontinuing the clearview boxes because thats what all my hatchling racks are built for. And not just the 6 quart boxes either, most of my racks are built for the larger sizes of clearview boxes as well.

Clearview is the one I was talking about... Sorry for the confusion.

I am in the market for a new hatchling rack system, and came into this problem as well... which is why I posted up here to see if I was the only one with the problem..

I find that when I buy some tubs from walmart or another large local store.... a few months down the road and they've changed the model. It's irritating.... maybe that's all they are doing? I can't see shoebox sizes going out of style. :(

What bothers me the most is that they've removed those models from their website so maybe they really are phasing out that style. I'm sure they'll still make shoeboxes, but the other styles have different dimensions and won't fit the racks that I already have.

I'll have to go out and buy some more for spares, I've been meaning to do that anyway. I like the clearview better then the basic storage boxes because they're thicker plastic and hold up better.

I just got back from Target (lunch break) and they have a new style out that is 6 qt. It is 1642 instead of 1752....

Its thinner, and has a blue top now.

It also looks like they are discontinuing the 15qt and 32qt as well...

Yeah, the 1642 is their basic storage box line. Much thinner plastic, they're smoother on the inside though with fewer edges, they're also cheaper. I'll have to build a rack designed around them to see if I like them or not.

That's disappointing....I'll have to go pick some up before they disappear

They get all the old style tubs and I've bought hundreds of the 6quarts at a time. Guess it's time to really start stocking up on them!

I have had a hard time finding the 28 quart tubs at a couple of area Walmarts lately, so I am not sure what they are doing, they are Sterilite as well. :confused:

i agree with the last poster-buy a bunch when you build a rack!

sterilite and rubbermaid are constantly redesigning there tubs.

has anybody considered the vision tubs? they are not as high as the shoeboxes so you can get more in the same amount of space,they have a smooth interior,i really like the fact there 18" long so you can keep hatchlings in them longer and i'm sure they will be around for a while.

the only drawback i see is that you have to pay shipping,but in the long run they may be cheaper,just a thought.have fun!

Yup, I need the 28 qt. as well and can no longer find them :mad:

I spent the last few weeks hunting for the 28 qt. tubs and found them in walgreens for almost 9$ each. That sucks:taz::taz::taz:

I had an awful problem finding 32 qts recently. I did find really nice 28's though at Target for $4.99 each. So many of the new designs are latch top and depending on the size of the snake when you slide them into a rack you've got a fairly big rectangular cut out at each end of the tub which I'm not impressed with. The only place I could find a decent sized tub with a regular smooth edge finish was the ones at Target last week.

Thanks for the advice, I will check out Target, I live behind Walmart and less than a mile from Target so neither is a problem. I have seen 28qt in different brands, with the latching lids etc. and have always worried I would get the home and they would be a little taller or shorter than the sterilites I am using and not fit in the rack correctly, anyone else try any other brands of tubs in a rack, make for sterilite tubs? Are they all the same size??

I went to target yesterday and they still had the 6 qt tubs. I picked up a couple in case something happens to one of the tubs in my baby rack.. Maybe I should stock on my some more. It looks like I should check all of my rack tubs and see if any of the others are going out of style.

When it comes to tubs, I like target's tub styles better than the ones walmart carries. Target has 15QT, 32QT, and 74QT that are all the same height which makes them all work in my rack so I can change it around at any time. Also those 6QT ones with the sturdy lids can slide into the same rack if you leave the lids on so the snakes cant get out. Thats 4 diff sizes all in 1 rack! The heat gradient works out fine also, but the tubs have to be pushed all the way back which doesnt look as nice. I need to go check my model #s and go buy a bunch of tubs of they are discontinuing them :mad:

I know it won't help the ones who are looking for replacement tubs for existing racks, but if you're planning to build a new rack with tubs in the 28-32 qt size range, you might want to consider the Vision V-35 tubs. They are thicker than the Sterilite tubs and have a smooth bottom. They also seem to have a slicker finish that residue :O doesn't adhere as well to. Translation: they are easier to clean. :D

They are priced competitive with the Sterilite tubs, but you will have to pay shipping. I am including a link to their website if you are interested.

Alright, I was mistaken...

I got this e-mail from Ali at Animal Plastics who was doing some background checking for me, and this is what they said:

I had someone call Sterilite today and they informed us that the 1752, 1754,
1756, and 1758 are not being discontinued, but will be made exclusively for
Target. They will not be found anywhere else, except for Target. So it looks
like we are good to go.

now to bring up an old thread (well not that old but old enough). I need to get a new rack and was looking at the AP sterilite 1756(10) 10Tub rack. There is a link to purchase the tubs from target.. well, when I clicked on the link the page I get states this:

I thought I would transfer the tub information into the forums before it's lost. Animal Plastics racks use the 1752, 1754 and 1756. Dollar store in my area just got some in, maybe I'll buy them out and build a small hatchling rack now that they are cheap.

One word: Iris. I only buy or build racks that use Iris tubs. Sterilite is notorious for changing sizes and discontinuing tubs. Also I just believe that Iris is a better overall tub.

dude.. if they made a rack to fit the iris 32qt tub (like the RBI rack) I'd get it, cause I think the iris tub is better as well. :D I did send AP's an email asking if they could build a rack to the dimensions of the aforementioned iris tub so we'll see what they say.

My local target has LOTS of 6 qt!! They get in a shiptment like once every 2 weeks, i dont understand why they discontinue sizes, but if they do, im sure there will still be a very close in size container, for example, they discontinued 32 qt's, but now have 28 qts which are very similar in size, just a 4 qt difference... Maybe it will be the same with the 6 qts?

I believe they do make an Iris rack that fits the Iris boot box. It is very close to 32qt size.

There is a Sterilite 32qt with a latching lid at target that fits the old 32qt box almost exactly the same.

what rack would that be? all I see are the 330 series, for hatchlings, the 375 for hatchlings and juvies, the cb-70 front load and wide load, and the 900 series. would the iris boot box fit into their 10 tub sterilite rack?

I believe it's the 375. That rack can use shoebox tubs or boot boxes. I would ask Ali to be sure. She will know better than me! :)
