    Going under the knife!
I know I haven't been around all that much recently, but I got my surgery date last week and now that the time is drawing nearer I have a little spare time to reflect and figured I would hop on the boards and make a post. I don't really fit into any cliques around here or have any sort of friendships but I needed to post anyway :D I go in on the 20th and will be in the hospital until Friday, in the event I don't make it keep an eye out for my wife posting my collection in the for sale section (told her to give a good deal to you guys) :8: I'll be off and on for the next few days and will update once I get home. Good thoughts welcomed :D

Think positive thoughts!! You don't need to belong to a clique here! We are one big group here.
Hope all goes well for you. We would rather see you keep your snakes and enjoy them. Good luck with your surgery. We'll be thinking of you!!:)

Surgery is always scary, I hope everything goes well for you and you make a complete recovery. Sending good thoughts and prayers your way.... (though it sounds weird in my head saying 'Dear God, please look after Enve....') ;)

Best of luck for a fast recovery.

Oh yeah! I think you mentioned it in the 'Fellas of BPnet' thread! I have a short memory... just takes a little reminding and I'll usually get it, though! Best of luck to you! I've spoken with a few people who've gone through that procedure and they couldn't be happier! Can't wait to see your B&A pics in a few months! :D

    So, this is your choice.
You have already spoken with your doctors and your wife.
You have already spoken with yourself.
I'm sure you have already tried other ways of being physically healthy.
    This is your choice.
Rejoice that you are taking the first step toward a healthier you :D
Rejoice that you have a good wife standing by ready to welcome you back into consciousness ;)
Rejoice that you had the bravery to tell others here about your journey and to ask for our well wishes
Rejoice that you are receiving well wishes :D
Rejoice that your wife won't be giving away your snake collection
Rejoice in knowing that you have made a difference on this forum without ever even realizing it! :weirdface
Rejoice that we are all grown-ups and don't need 'cliques'
Good luck. I look forward to your speedy return!

Whatever anxiety that you may have built up in your head right now you should just forget about. If you are having roux en y surgery by the orthoscopic method (the most common procedure) I can assure you that the procedure is really no big deal to have done. I had it over two years ago and I can tell you that you will be glad that you had it done.

Good luck with your Surgery!! I hope all goes as planned, and you have a quick recovery.

I had surgery for the first time 3 years ago, I had my tonsils removed and I was scared out of my mind. Only because of all the horror stories I had heard. Mostly about post surgery though.

Think positive thoughts about it! Everything will be fine! :)

Wow, I really appreciate all the positive thoughts from you all! :D It definitely makes me feel better. dsirkle, That is the same procedure i'm going for. I know a few people who had it done and would do it again if they had to. It is a big lifestyle change but will be worth it in the end. I'm going to try and do pic updates every 2 weeks or so in this topic for anyone wanting to see the progress.

Good to see you back Nick, apparently everything went OK and all that worrying was for nothing. Thats usually the way it goes, the anticipation feels worse sometimes then the actual procedure. Time now to rest and recuperate and spend your time on important things like snakes.....

Thanks for the welcome back! :D Wife will be happy when i'm up and about so she doesn't have to care for the snakes and rats lol. I'm going to try and make this into a little journal of progress.

    Day 4 post-op - Weight 296 (300 pre-op)

Feeling alot better today. Had horrible gassy pains the first few days and the pressure was killing me. It is finaly gone though and I can get up and move around with just the expected incision pain and stomach soreness. Going to watch my sons babseball game this afternoon which will be nice to get out of the house for a little while and do some walking. Also started my protein shakes this morning, not really hungry even though I haven't had solid food since last Sunday which is nice. All in all feeling pretty good today, looking forward to next week so I can start semi-solid (blended) food

dsirkle - Just started the protein, not too bad, I replaced 1 meal a deal before surgery with it to get used to it. The sugar free pops have been my life saver as of right now. It was homemade soup broth the first few days but now it's the popsicles. Didn't realize how hard getting 4oz every hour would be lol.

I'll get up a before pic later on today. Thanks again all!

Prior to the reintroduction of any solid food is the time that you will have really rapid weight loss. Popsicles are good for flavor. I ate a lot of crushed ice with Crystal Light. I did not have the gas pains but they are expected. For the long run, which you aren't thinking about right now, don't drink during meals or you will flush the food through your pouch and end up eating much more. That is a big thing. You will be really glad that you did this. The weight will come off fast as you start moving around and burning calories and taking in hardly any. :gj:

The gas pains are pretty much gone now THANKFULLY! I was actually able to get out for most of the day yesterday. All my liquids are sitting well with me now as well. The crystal light is pretty good, didn't think to mix it into crushed ice i'll have to give that a try. Only have a few more days before I can start my puree diet for 3 weeks  I'm not hungry but seeing my family eat real food makes me think i'm hungry lol They really stressed the no drinking with meals in the program I was in. Nothing to drink 15 minutes before a meal and for 1 hour after, I actually practiced it the last few weeks coming up to my surgery date it wasn't too bad more habit than anything.

Been a few days, here's a little update.

    Day 9 post op - Weight 278

Been feeling better and better every day! Went to see my surgeon Tuesday and everything is going great, they even advanced me to stage 2 diet. Not as bad as I thought it would be it's like eating all your food pre-chewed lol. Started going to the gym yesterday to get some better walking in on the treadmill and elliptical. All and all things are going good  Here is a pic from a few months ago, not a great pic to do a comparison with but thats all I got unfortunately. I'll post an after pic in a few weeks.

    Re: Going under the knife!
Well it's been a LONG time since I posted an update, so here it goes :D Obviously i've been pretty much gone since May/June (popping in here and there). My work screwed me over after my surgery, I was supposed to be out for 6 weeks which my short term disability was going to cover but they decided to pull everyone's short term right before my surgery (coincidence?). So I was only able to take 3 weeks off and when I went back to work I was on light duty so I wasn't working my 40 hrs a week. Then the bills started to pile up...and up....and up. I was forced to sell off most of my collection (went to a great home though, thanks again Jamie!) I'm finally pretty much stable now so I'm able to keep my remaining 3 BP's and recently picked up a RTB. Hopefully I'll be able to build my collection back up to somewhat close to where it was before. But enough of that, as for the surgery update it's been a little over 4 months now and i'm down to 210lbs from 319lbs a few months before my surgery. I feel great and all seems to be going well. I'm pretty much adjusted to the lifestyle change all though I could kill for an ice cold beer sometimes :8: Been through 3 wardrobes already also which kinda stinks but I keep donating all my cloths that shrink out of which is good. Anyway it's good to be back around the forums, looking great here as always :gj: I don't have an old pic on this computer but I will hunt one down and post it, here is one for a few weeks ago....
