    That was HARD
Just had to knock off my favorite mouse. :(:(:(

My oldest breeding trio, and the sweetest mice ever, were all just knocked off and fed to three very eager snakes. While I'm very glad all three were eaten fast... it was still quite hard to do that, especially to Butterscotch, my favorite golden female.

Still tearing up over it... but
RIP Butterscotch, Licorice, and Oreo. You were great little mice.

I'm not breeding my own anymore but when I was I hated feeding off my old breeders. So sad.

We breed rats since by the time they are done breeding they are to big to be fed to a ball python generally. We take them to the pet store and trade them for mice feeders. They get used to feed the larger snakes at the store, but we don't have to see it!

Thanks for all the sympathy, folks. I needed that. :)

One of the reasons I intend to try switching to rats is for that very fact. I can trade the retired breeders in, as it were, and not have to be there when they're fed off.

    *comfort*

Yeah, I couldn't kill off my 2 favorite mice breeders a while ago...but could eventually. I find if you get bitten by one, makes it easier.

Ive had to do this a few times aready, and one was with a female that had given me good litters and was the only one who was a silver albino. I co2ed her and threw her over our fence, I couldnt feed her off:oops: Id never be able to get rid of my rats if I bred them!

Heh, humor comes from strange places. But that point was well understood. :) I have a trio of breeders that produce huge litters...and that's the only reason they are still alive. All three are vicious little buggers! I will have NO hesitation in feeding those three off.

And I hear you on the silver albino thing. I have two, brother and sister, that are the offspring of that favorite mouse and are now my new breeders along with a black and a white female. :)

I have a few breeder rats I could never feed off. When they retire from breeding I will keep my favorites (those I'm attached to) and let them live out their lives as pets, and those that I just can't feed off but are not attached to, get CO2ed and buried. (Or left for wildlife to scavenge.)
