Now I Can't Sleep
I'm deathly afraid of tornados and there is a tornado watch for my area until 3am. I have work at 8am and I won't be able to get to sleep till the watch is over. There is a lot of lightning outside and apparently around 1am the worst of the storm will be over us.
I hate weather like this. I'm freakin out right now.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Strong coffee in the AM...put on some headphones, relaxing music and lay back with your eyes closed....
honestly, it helps....you may not sleep, but your body rests a bit more than if you ran around the house all night looking out the windows....
if you can't do that...call a friend...heck, I'm an insomniac...call me...LOL
hope it passes fast

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Not when you live in a two story townhome with no place to go if a tornado hits. Not to mention I have several animals on both levels of the house. We are keeping an eye on the storm online to track its progress. Normally I love storms but for some reason, at night I get a little freaked out. I decided to check the weather online and found out we had a tornado watch in effect, so that led to more freaking out.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
We had tornado warnings for most of the morning and afternoon here, so I feel your anxiety. (ever since I had kids, tornados freak me out) I'm lucky enough to have a basement. I also recommend the weather radios, they're relatively inexpensive.
I hope you stay safe from the storms.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Ah, I can't stand this. Everytime the thunder booms I jump. I will probably be up until 3am when the tornado watch expires. Lots of caffeine for me in the morning. I'm keeping up with the radar and the worst parts of the storm seem to be breaking up (not as much red on the screen, more yellow now), so we are crossing our fingers it lessens before it hits us.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
I'm a bit north of you. We had some sort of severe weather warning/watch (don't remember exactly how it was worded), but that is no longer showing up on the weather reports. So I assume it has been lifted. Is it possible yours has been lifted too?
We do still have a flood watch, but that's all.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
I doubt it. The radar is showing the weather is getting worse here. The rain is picking up outside. And we just found out there is a tornado warning in south Va. That same section of the storm is heading towards us, so we are keeping track of the weather now on the t.v as well.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
I feel your pain. Severe storms scare the heck outta me. I've gotten better, but a few years ago I was bad enough to where I would literally spend the whole storm going from window to window staring out, looking for funnel clouds. Sleep? Forget it.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
We are on weather.com watching the radar every few minutes. Every time it refreshes, we check it.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
So did you make it through the night ok?
-
Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Yea. I ended up falling asleep at 2:30, I was sooo tired. The storm passed over us with nothing too bad, but apparently surrounding areas got pounded.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
I'm glad you made through okay.

Ironically windows would be just about the worst place to be during a severe storm.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Oh man scary stuff right there! Glad to hear everything is okay.
I love it here. The biggest threat we usually have is snow and lots of it.
For the most part we are pretty cushioned from all the major natural disasters here.
Except for Volcanoes but we are far enough away that I am not too worried. When Mt. St helens errupted we just got all the ash. Most are dormant in this area anyway.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Ill take my paradise for a chance at losing your house every year to a hurricane. Its almost like legalized gambling.

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
We had a tornado come through my parents house a few years ago. Didn't get the house but threw a huge tree through the pole barn (3 days before our horses were supposed to come) and if you haven't ever seen a tornado live... you're missing out! It's intense!

Re: Now I Can't Sleep
Scary stuff..! I have seen water spouts (basically tornadoes over the lake) and small dust devils, but never a tornado. Although our garage here was de-roofed a few years before we moved here.. tornado went right down the driveway, past the house and into the garage. Yikes! I always get paranoid at tornado-watch time, though it is pretty hillly here, we do get some within 20 miles.
