What was your mid-life crisis defining moment?
I recently had an "aha" moment, though my mother claims I am too young to be in "mid-life" (last time I checked life expectancy was about 76 for women, so she's wrong). I realized that I got into this hobby as my mid-life crisis defining moment - or "soothing solution"; and my husband is going from finance desk-jockey to flatbed trucker for his.
What have YOU all done?

My boyfriend claims to have had his midlife crisis (ha! hes 23) And that was his Miata. He had it for 3 years and finally got sick of it. I believe that he thinks that was his mid-life crisis because he will only live to 40 if he keeps buying cars like Miatas lol.

Melissa, You haven't even made it to the top of the hill yet, there is no point in thinking about the ride back down. You can take that as good advice from one who is in the 1.5% age group on this site. Go check the poll and find what percentage that your age falls in.

what midlife crisis? I'm supposed to have one? Nobody informed me of this!! I'm always the last to know these things.
I'm too busy raising an almost 11 year old, an almost 3 year old and a 9 month old to have a midlife crisis, but if I was to claim to have one.. yeah I think it would be my snakes :D not a bad midlife crisis to have.

Pfft, nah...:D :gj:
I don't know about mid-life crisis, but Rick and I go on "therapy aversion" dates regularly. We go to Toys-R-Us and tell ourselves we can buy ANYTHING in the store. It's awesome...we play with everything, knowing if we really like it or even only kinda like it, it's okay cuz we can buy it! Rawr! No mom telling us we can't have it!
It's very soothing and a lotta fun! Toy helicopters and Barbie dolls and stuffed snake dolls...oh yeah...MINE.

I guess I'm too old to want to play with the toys, but I go to the barbie shelves while Kelly plays with them. On second thought I love to go down the aisle activating all the talking and noise making toys they have. Talk about someone getting dirty looks!!!:D

This sounds just like my hubby... helps in locating him in the store though.
I dont get to the barbie isle cause I get dragged to the cars and trucks section by my boys (hubby included).
I'm waiting for my daughter to holler loud enough.. I wanna go play with Barbie.. ah revenge is sweet! :D

Re: What was your mid-life crisis defining moment?
I think the defining moment was a couple of years ago when I realised I was so much calmer and wiser, and more tolerant. That's not to say that I'm calm and wise now, just calmer and wiser than I was before. Ha ha.
In the last few years my two daughters have moved out, and my son went to boarding school last year, so it's just me and my youngest son at home.
Since then I've added two goats to my two dogs, two cats and two Galahs (used to be three Galahs, but Smash died last week).
Now that I'm getting a snake, my ex mother-in-law is worried that I'm trying to fill my nest up in preparation for when my youngest moves out! (She may be right!).
I suppose that could count as a mid-life crisis.
Hey, that means I'll live till I'm 78. Yay!

Re: What was your mid-life crisis defining moment?
I haven't hit any crisis yet, but we've had several losses to our family that have hit pretty hard. (especially my cousin who was only a couple years older than I am) That really made me reevaluate my priorities. My family and friends are everything to me, and try to make sure they know it. They bring such richness to my life, and I'm very lucky to be surrounded by by such a wonderful group of people. :D
I do think a midlife crisis could be lots of fun. I think some planning is definitely warranted. :giggle:
