What can I use as insulation for my 20g long glass tank?

I used housing foam insulation board. The reflective side inwards towards the tank.

I use blue insulating foam board

It's behind the foil tape on the tank, but you can see some that's against the wall behind it. Works great and can be covered with fabric if you don't like the way it looks. :)

:) I use cork as well on my free standing tubs, and blankets on the tanks around the foam board. Winter here can be really harsh and we can't afford to keep the house above 72, so I use all the insulation I can get. It worked, tho. No one's temps dropped much all winter.

IMHO, the more insulation you can put on an enclosure, the less 'hard' your heating sources have to work. That's money in the bank for a student. :)

I ended up getting Reflectix, it looks like mylar bubble wrap. Its about 1/2 inch thick and I put it on sides and back of the tank with foil tape (wow that stuff is crazy xD). I'm happy with it since it keeps the cool side from getting lower than 78 degrees, whereas before it was getting down to 75-:O.
Thx for all the feedback :)

Yeah I wanted to get the foam board, but the lazy guy at Home Depot wouldnt cut it down for us.... there was no way we were going to fit a 4' x 8' board in a 4-door Saturn  And apparently they dont sell smaller pieces...

I agree!! That is ridiculous, you should have located the manager on that one. I get that stuff all the time, and the guys at my store have no problem cutting it down for me (since I ride the bus). I would suggest going back and speaking with someone high up if they refuse again.

And if they give you the excuse that the stuff is flammable (which it is), just reassure them that it's been cut many times before without incident. :)
