Nat Geo employment
Alright, I'm going to need all the help I can with this folks. I've been getting some new photography equipment in, as well as a lot of practice. I've upgraded both of my camera's; both my field and studio camera, and invested some serious time into this.
Well, I've had more than a handful recommend me applying for a National Geographic job as a photographer....
Does anyone know exactly "how" to? I've contacted them a couple weeks back, with no response. Do any of you have at least a little bit of information that would help? :)
Thanks!

Re: Nat Geo employment
have you followed up? Following up usually lets them know you're really interested...just don't get obnoxious with daily follow ups. :)

Re: Nat Geo employment
I've called, and sent a second email. Whom ever I had talked to on the phone was very nice, and had me email them some of my photographs. She said she would turn it into some audio/visual and program directory office, and have them call me back. I'm still waiting on a call from that office.

Re: Nat Geo employment
I had an idea for you... My dad subscribes to Webshots for something like $2.50 a month, which lets us download high quality professional photos for our desktop wallpapers. They have a number of photographers that they showcase. Their reptile section is particular skimpy... I can't imagine this pays too much, but it might be an easy way to pick up a few more dollars in your pocket.

That is an interesting thought. I'd have to hold off on that until I go to Brians place, as well as Neils. Zoo pictures aren't exactly stunning since your shooting through glass or fencing half the time :(

How does one acquire that?

Re: Nat Geo employment
Probably local things like newspaper, selling it to private collectors.. etc ?

Re: Nat Geo employment
I have absolutely no idea :( I thought they'd grade it based on image composition, quality, professionalism, equipment, etc. Guess not...

Re: Nat Geo employment
well you've got the next few years to build up your portfolio and experience... i can't speak for nat geo, but my dad was a pro photographer and he always said it was all about your portfolio and how many mind blowing pictures you have in there... just like experience listed on a resume. diversity and quality are the main components.
