I just fed!!
Well I don't know if I did something wrong but right before I fed my ball I decided to clean out his space and now after I fed him I put him in and now he looks uneasy. Did I do it wrong? Should I have waited? What do I do to make his home feel more like his old setup?
-
Re: I just fed!!
What did you use to clean it out?
-
Re: I just fed!!
All I did was take out his old substate and replace it with fresh stuff I cleaned out his water and moved around the hide and the fake plant stuff he just looked confused

Re: I just fed!!
Mine do the same thing there just getting use to the new digs dont worry its all good. there looking for a good spot to poop haha :D

Re: I just fed!!
Well in that case I don't think I have ever seen my ball poop! What does it look like and keep in mind I have only have had him/her for only a month and I have never seen what the poop looks like. So then that will lead to my next question. How do I know that he/she is okay? I mean do they poop all the time or once every blue moon?

These questions should have been asked BEFORE the purchase of the ball python!

Re: I just fed!!
Yeah I guess! But lets say you had a baby, do you just take it home and know how to be a parent? Or do you take it home and learn as you go along? I didn't have the time to learn all that there is to learn about ball pythons. But I figured I will learn as I go and also there is this wonderful thing called the internet that I can learn from as well. So if your comment that you posted wasnt gonna help me JASBALLS I suggest never writing a comment for any of my questions again! Now those people that are cool and would like to help me learn the things I need to learn please feel free to comment and THANKS FOR ALL THOSE THAT TRY TO HELP!

Re: I just fed!!
yeah I know I have just bought a digital thermometer/hygrometer becuase I read it here on this site and Im not going nuts on him I just feel if Im asking a serious question I should get a serious answer kinda like how you responded to me. What color is the poop? or does it vary?
-
Re: I just fed!!
haha were talking about poop here its brown and very harry thats about it and it smells
-
Re: I just fed!!
Poo is brown. They poo when they do; younger royals poo more often than older royals. :P
Given their brain structure, I always keep the hides, etc in the same place after the cleaning as it was before the cleaning. :D
Also, you don't need to feed the snake outside of the enclosure and most believe it to be less stressful and more natural for the snake to ambush the prey from their hide and/or environment. :gj:

Check here, there's a poo pic lower down on the page.
Check here, they talk about how often they do it.
Hope that helps.

Re: I just fed!!

Re: I just fed!!
Maybe I missed it, but how often are you feeding? That could play a part in it too. If you've fed him 6 times but closer together, then his system may not have had time to work through it all yet. They tend to let it all build up and then let it go in one big dump.
You can try soaking him in warm water (remember that because they are cold-blooded, "warm" to us can be scalding to them. So be careful about water temp. Keep it in the mid 80s I would guess.) The warm water sometimes relaxes them enough to allow them to pass waste.
I wouldn't be too concerned about it though. If he goes a couple of months without a BM, then I would schedule a trip to the vet. Otherwise, it seems normal to me. My girl is perfectly healthy and she doesn't poop very often at all. She'll pass urates semi-regularly, but hold poops for a month or two at a time. Makes cleaning easy. :P

Re: I just fed!!
If that is your snake in the avatar, and that is the size meals he is getting, THAT is why he isn't defecating. He is using all of his energy to digest that tiny mouse, which has no nutrition at all. He's not going to defecate unless you actually feed him something worthwhile.
I would suggest NOT buying the frozen mice from Petsmart. They are overpriced and incredibly tiny. $10 for 3 is rediculous..
Find a place that sells small to medium adult mice, and give him one of those every 5-7 days. Only tiny hatchlings right out of the egg are going to eat hopper mice(not even those fuzzies you're feeding). After a few meals, they get started on small adults and worked up as they grow. If you continue to feed him the fuzzy mice, he will end up stunted and underweight.
