newspaper. he is in a tuperwear container and hiding 24/7 so whats the point in wasting money on something that may look better than you cant see.

    Good point!

You left out cypress.. some of my fellow display tankers use it for the humidity. I personally use aspen because it is easier for me to see things I need to spot clean.

Re: what kind of substrate do you use?
thanks for all the feedback. the purpose of this poll was to help me decide on a new substrate (mine is in a tank so I'd like the substrate to look nice). right now I'm using reptibark and it doesnt seem to help at all with keeping humidity up. Now that I have my t-stat I'll be getting another UTH so I dont have to use a lamp anymore, that should help with humidity levels, too.

That's a good idea - I purchase packing and shipping materials for work all the time from Uline. Never thought to use the indented kraft paper. I assume there's nothing in it that would irritate the snakes??? I'll have to look into that. Probably more pleasing on the eyes compared to paper towels or newsprint.

I would be worried to put newspaper because of the ink and blackness that comes off of the newspapers. I think the Aspen sounds best right now. I use repti-bark and I will now change to Aspen.

We actually use the unprinted newspaper sheets from uline. They work great!

I like the kraft paper idea as well.

Re: what kind of substrate do you use?
I know it kind of defeats the purpose, since the newspaper is usually free, but you can buy huge reams or easel papers of newsprint (the paper the paper companies use, but before it gets there, so it is just plain off-ish white). I dont really have an estimate, but I have used it with training puppies and I dont remember it being that expensive.

Btw, I will be using aspen.

Re: what kind of substrate do you use?
I use Repti-bark with some bed-a-beast mixed in. Main reason I am using it right now is that I had some extra left over from the mixture I use for my tortoises...

Am happy with it for now but I'm not sure what I'm going to choose when I change out the substrate next time. I'll probably either just switch to newspaper or just keep using the same thing I do with my torts cuz it seems to work.

    Paper towels:gj:
I used aspen for a long while, but it started to get really old. I always changed it out everytime they pooped or pee'd because of how much it would soak up( not wanting belly rot here) and it would always get stuck to his food, and id have to pull it all off. Now if i see poop or pee it only takes a few seconds to change it:)
