Scale Rot...
Just a few questions..
-Is it contagious between snakes/reptiles?
-Could it cause my snake to lose her desire to eat?
-If caught early, can it be treated from home/without seeing a vet?

- 1. Not unless it has a bacterial/other type of transferable infection (as far as I know) but your snakes should not be housed together anyway.
- 2. Yes, a snake in pain is stressed. Stress=no desire to eat.
- 3. Yes, but a vet can perscribe antibiotics if needed, and identify any other potential issues.

No problemo! There may still be others with varying responses, so you don't have to take my word alone:)

Re: Scale Rot...
I would take the snake to a herp vet and get their advice on the situation. For the time being keep the snake dry, on something like newspaper or paper towels.
If you can get betadine, you can give the snake a soak in a betadine/water solution.
Best of luck!

You may also be able to get betadine bristle scrub brushes from the vet if you take your snake in.
I treated a snake several years ago for a belly burn/possible scale rot. I was instructed to scrub her belly with betadine and absolutely no soaking for the animal in question while the rot was going on.

Re: Scale Rot...
U can also get betadine (sometimes less expensive for the same strength product) at your local drug store/Walgreens, etc. Some vets like to mark up the prices quite a bit.

Re: Scale Rot...

Re: Scale Rot...
Does scale rot tend to "dry up", so to speak, when healing?
