Is this set up good for my Ball Python?

Re: Is this set up good for my Ball Python?
Too much space. Cover the back and sides with an opaque paper or background, get another cave hide for the other side, and add some scrunched up paper or fake greenery for hiding/security.

Also, get rid of those dial thermometers (they are crap) and get yourself a digital one, preferably with a probe. Acurite is great and an in/out/humidity unit with probe is around $12-13 at Lowes or Walmart.

Also, how are you heating? Is there a UTH on a control device or is it just those lamps?

im going to be the :cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r::cens0r: that says it.....but

Its too Big..isnt the wild pretty Big?

Cover the sidessame thing i didnt know the wild had 3 sides covered

im just saying i've never understood this thought process...

i would agree to get rid of the analog meters. walmart has a nice one that has a probe and its only like $12 its an Acu Rite.

also maybe get some plants in there just for our eyes and something more natural

Now now, be nice;) You are correct, the wild is very big! But bps live in teeny tiny burrows and termite mounds, where it is dark and snug and secure. They hunt and live out of these tiny spaces, and to simulate them is important to successful feeding. That is why covereing 3 sides is important, as well as having the correct size enclosure:)

Re: Is this set up good for my Ball Python?
Yep. When the wild they inhabit is surrounded on all sides, then covering at least three of the four is important for their feelings of security.

As for space, I for one like to give my animals as much space as I have to give...but that also means I have to provide plenty of cover in that space for solitary/secretive species. In the case of my first BP, I started her in her 20L tank when she was 2 months old, but I made sure she had plenty of plants and good hides to help her feel secure. Basically, it worked. :)

I saw that and wondered that myself, he might not even know who buddha is, and bought it from a mall somewhere. Maybe he will get some Tankas and use them as a back drops to cover up the other three sides of the tank.

lol that is the exact snake-starter-kit that i bought. this is what I'm working with now:
    http://i278.photobucket.com/albums/k...20-08_1504.jpg

i bought 2 identical cave hides, 4-5 feet of aquarium background poster, some fake plants, a UTH (using a dimmer with it until my t-stat comes) and an Acurite- 'bout 12$ from Walmart, it is much more accurate than those crappy dials and also has a hygrometer built in which is very nice. The Acurite also has a probe sensor for "outdoor" temps, which you will be using to check the temp under the substrate on the warm side (given you are using a UTH)

oh and can't forget the Jungle Vine - Shinobi just LOVES that thing :D

don't worry, I wasn't completely/deeply offended...it just bothered my a little, no biggie, In the Thai culture and mayb others buddhist cultures, we have this general rule that the buddha is always put in the highest point of the house, there should never be an instance where the person be higher then it. frankly I don't really understand all aspects of it, it was just the way I was brought up to know

Is it really that big of a deal? It isn't in your household or presence, so why would it bother you?

Regardless if he worships the statue or if the only symbolic meaning is that it looks cool, how is it any of your business?

Sorry I had school and everything so I couldn't explain the Buddha. Yes, I am Buddhist and I went to Thailand and became a Buddhist. I speak Chinese, some Thai, Korean, English, German, and a little Japanese.

Yes I know what Buddha means, and you should know just for your knowledge that There are giant Buddha statues in China and Thailand and probably in India too, and birds land on them and nature takes its course on them, so I thought about it and if Snakes do what they do then it's nature. Just read more into Buddhism and you'll understand about the part where you should respect nature and Buddha isn't a "GOD". It's a ro-model.

Read this and you'll understand maybe. Are you sure you're buddhist. lol

Buddha is not worshipped as god, deva, nor prophet or messenger of God but a human guru ( teacher) who had gained enlightenment.

Probably one of the few religions in the world that had never fought any war in his name.

A typical misconception tends to link Buddha as the Buddhist counterpart of “God”; however, Buddhism is non-theistic, i.e., in general it does not teach the existence of a supreme creator god (see God in Buddhism) or depend on any supreme being for enlightenment; Buddha is a guide and teacher who points the way.

The commonly accepted definition of the term "God" describes a being that not only rules but actually created the universe (see origin belief). Such ideas and concepts are disputed by Buddha and Buddhists in many Buddhist discourses.

In Buddhism, the supreme origin and creator of the universe is not a god, but Avidya (ignorance). Buddhists try to dispel this darkness through constant practice, wisdom and compassion (known as prajna).

Hey, Im not sure if you have your clamp lamps on the top of the tank directly? If you do I would definately suggest taking them off direct contact. The tank is a little big but like most people were saying just put some more hiding spots for your bp! Do you have anything to monitor humidity levels? :)

The thingy you see in the picture reads humidity and temperature. I'm going to go to walmart tomorrow because I don't get out of work until 11:30pm, and get an accurite.
I will get more Hide spots but I just got him on monday(2days ago) and I still have a lot to learn.
I love the lil guy and I hope to have him for a long time.

Here's the lil guy. He was in his Hide for the other pictures of the cage I took. Here he is, When I was sitting next to the cage I looked over and it look as if he was kissing Buddhas head.

So I ran and grabbed my laptop which is the only camera in the house (built in camera) and then took it but by the time I loaded up the taking picture program he started to slowly move toward his Hide which he ended up going to and staying there.

I can't wait to get him more stuff in his cage. I feel so bad because it's so damn boring for him but It's better than the pet store.

    Looks great! Love the plants.

I don't know if someone already mentioned this, but do you have identical hides on both the warm and cool ends? That seems to be something that I always see pointed out as really important whenever there is a discussion about cage setup. My snake rarely uses the his hide on the "cool" side but I know some do.

I used a bunch of fake plants in my cage too to help take up space and provide cover since my enclosure is on the large side for my snake's current size. It seems to work well and I think it makes the enclosure a little more aesthetically pleasing.
