Alan wasn't antagonizing it we were looking at so new babies and he touched its tail and it started striking at him. So he was trying to pick it up and couldn't..Nothing sinister going on just a guy not wanting to get bit and unable to get around behind the animal to pick it up.

Alan is one of our members here that joined a group of us in Birmingham that weekend. I'm think he is more of a reader than a poster.

No antagonizing at all, like Ed said he merely touched the snakes tail and it set it off, it just came back from being in a container with a few other baby Ball Pythons at the show and was a little stressed, so it didn't take much to set it off. Everyone there loves Ball Pythons and wouldn't antagonize or cause harm to any BP, it was just funny to watch Alan trying to pick up the little girl without being tagged, thats why it was on film. :gj:

Ahh, it looks much different to me I guess. Looked like a bunch of people laughing at a striking baby ball python on a bed. I have to say I was pretty appalled. We talk so much about how new BP's are stressed and need an adjustment period of no handling in a quiet room. Why would we post something that shows the exact opposite? Taking it out of the cup to display on a hotel bed in a room full of excited people?

Sorry for my rudeness I guess, and what's done is done, but had it been anyone else, or some random post on youtube we'd all be in a riot over it. Wouldn't we??

Even though I understand you point for other situations, we were at a show, away from home and couldnt go home to let the BP settle in their tubs, so we pulled them out of their snake bags instead of leaving them there all the time and we were simply looking over the purchases from the day and that baby Ball was laid on the bed for Alan to look at, when he went to pick it up is when that started, it was as simple as that, nothing else to it

...bet it was a 'had to be there situation'...Maybe a description with the video would have helped....

....I do not see anything to get appauled over anyway...

...except a 'reptile keeper' afraid to pick up a baby ball python because it might strike ;)

I don't see it as them laughing at the poor baby ball python. They're definitely laughing at Alan.

I think it helps to know a bit of background from the Dixie Reptile threads, and to know the people involved. (well most of them anyway ;) ) It's not like they are poking at it's head, but instead they are trying to pic the little one up. It probably would have been a bit easier to just have gotten a hand towel and covered it up, but I do not see any cruelty.

It definitely was not Alan antagonizing the snake, but I can see how, without the background it would look like it. Alan was looking at her on the bed and when he touched her tail, she started to strike. He tried picking her up and she kept striking at him. The laughing was definitely at Alan.

As you can see at the very end after Alan got bit after "successfully" picking her up and put her down quickly, I quietly secured her head and picked her up (and at that point tucked her into the snake bag and then into a heated tub I brought).

It was very funny watching Alan's face (which you can't see) while he was trying to pick her up - there was nothing sinister about the situation.

Yeah everyone was laughing at me. I would never intentionally provoke an animal into biting me. I'm an animal lover!!! It's definately one of those you had to be there moments, hell it was a you had to be there weekend. I hope this puts your mind at ease little.

LOL Thats the first time I've been bitten. And those little guys are fast. I was trying to get behind it to pick it up. LOL I wasn't scared just giving him or her it's respect!! But now I've joined the "been bitten club" I guess... If that one even counts???

Hmmm... that's a tough call, y'all. Definitely had to be there. The video alone w/out the explanation... well, I'm with Connie (littleindiangirl) on that one. It looks horrendous. But now that it's been explained, I understand.

Still, that being said, I have to say that I read the whole thread BEFORE I watched the video, getting the explanation - but I still felt uncomfortable with the video. I'm afraid, IMHO, this one falls under, please try to be more responsible with your posts. If it's an in-joke, maybe it should stay in.

Personally, I think this should be moved to quarantine to avoid those just surfing in from seeing this.

    Sorry, just my :2cent:.

In that situation, I would have either gotten a towel to throw over her, or just let her tag me in order to get a hold of her.

I work with VERY large exotic parrots. I've had to offer my arm up as "bait" in order to deal with problem animals many times. That baby makes my job seem terrifying.

As long as this wasn't some ignoramus toying with a snake for fun, I definitely can see the humor in it. :P
