Pet Store Python Pissed Off
A pet store python got pissed and bit the owner - at least this one ends well for the snake.

If they can't handle a jolly giant like a burm, its their fault for owning one...Smart snake though;)

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
I don't own any giants, so maybe I am naive, but how does a 12 ft Burm "throw you on the floor"? Don't you just fall down under it's weight?

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
Well, chalk up another stupid thing to happen in my state. The idiot store keeper had been handling feeder mice and then (without washing up) reached into the cage for the snake. Well duh. The snake bit and wrapped; logical snake behavior. Stupid human.

They can pull, push, or whip you sideways. I know from first hand experience. They are incredibly powerful animals, and a large one will make most men look like baby's with the strength they can exert ;)

I believe it. I just don't think that a snake that big should be handled by someone that calls 911 if she gets a finger bite (not that the situation wasn't "serious" but with a snake that big, be prepared for goodness sakes)

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
Andrew is right most people never experience the force and determination of a feeding response from a giant. I have had a 3000 gram female ball latch on to me with a feeding response and I can tell you it is quite off putting. Even an experienced keep could be taken by aback by the sheer physical strength these animals possess. The lady is lucky a 12' burm couldn't have eaten her I wouldn't think but it could have kill her had she been alone. This is a classic example of a SFE that could have cost big.

I totally understand (not from experience but I can imagine quite vividly) I don't want to be rude, but she simply sounded like she wasn't very knowledgeable about giants like burms, and therefor should not be handling them. The whole story looks foolish and blown out of proportion to make the snake look evil, but isn't that usually the case?

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
That is normally the case, and most pet store employee's are completely incompetent of giant boid care, safety, or management. They're simply taught a bunch of bs, that they try (most successfully do it) feeding to their customers, when they want to purchase an animal, such as this. A 12' animal could have easily killed, or harmed her. When compared to other species, giants definitely take the cake towards strength, on even a developing youngster...

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
I'm glad the snake was OK. But the subtitle under the video that talon supplied a link for says "Python tries to swallow owner." That is nuts! The Burm didn't try to swallow her - it was just showing her what she was capable of.

How did you hear that? Funny, I never heard that part. What a dummie!

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
well of course the media is going to make it sound as bad as possible. if there's a snake involved, it ends up being a complete horror story about the poor thing. They need to get a herp expert on the news to show how incompetent that woman was instead of making it the snake's fault, if you ask me.

Good thing the lady didnt want the snake killed, she must have known that it wasnt the snakes fault.

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
On aol they have also covered the story... wrongly

The comments like " Reptiles are NOT meant to be pets" make me so mad!

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
I'll stick with my ball pythons - a size I can manage even when full grown. 5-6ft is my limit. Some people just aren't smart enough to know what they can handle.
Stupid humans is right.

Re: Pet Store Python Pissed Off
Unfortunately no matter what animal you have you can NEVER control what they are going to do! I have horses as well as snakes and even though they are the nicest animals and I am very experienced with them you never can tell........ :)
