Whole lot of shaking going on!!
How many of you felt the 5.2 earthquake this morning at 4:37am that originated in southern Illinois?... I always said I could sleep through a tornado, but obviously not an earthquake. The epicenter of this quake is only about 50 miles from me. We just had an aftershock just a few minutes ago...my monitor was shaking back and forth.... I know this isnt the California type quakes..but this just doesn't happen in this area very often...

i am a looong ways away but i still lost power for about an hour and had a plate fall off my counter... the plate was the only thing that woke me up to feel it though.
the good news is, my cooler incubator only lost 1 degree in the hour we didnt have power!

As far as I know...just a few things knocked off of shelves, broken windows and such. The significant other woke up and said "Is that an earthquake" I said "Yes" she started to jump up, dont know where she was planning on going...lol, and I just grabbed her arm and said, lay back down...It last about 22 seconds.....All is well here...

Earthquakes are a normal thing for me over here.

I was in SF when the 1989 Earthquake hit. I was young, and it scared the Bejeezus out of me, but it was a 7.0 magnitude...

    5.4 is still pretty big.

I hope everyone wasn't too rattled.

Lol, no you wouldn't because you wouldn't feel it. =)

I'm glad to hear it sounds like no one has been seriously hurt. 20-ish seconds is a long time, hehe!

I live in southern Illinois and it woke me up. I lived in San Fransisco for a year and never had one while I was there. It's funny that I now live in southern Illinois and now I felt one!

The weird thing is is last night was my feeding night and neither of my snakes even came out of their hides to feed. witch is odd because nothing has changed husbandry wise. I was wondering do you think they sensed something was coming? I know they say animals can sense things long before humans but I don't know if earthquakes are one of them? weird stuff.

It's funny because my youngest woke up twice in the night (very unusual for him) and I was up far earlier than normal. I'd just logged on to the computer, having given up any idea of getting back to sleep, when the old house we rent basically shivered. Really no other way to describe it....it was like a long shiver shook the house. I thought at first I was imagining it but I touched the wall beside my computer desk and you could just feel the house vibrating slightly.

Wow, thats really weird. Here in MN we're supposedly living near a large fault line, but it's a very stable one. A few years back I came home from work and noticed that a couple of windows in my brand new addition were cracked. I didn't realize we'd had an earthquake until I heard it on the news that night. It was only a 3 something on the richter scale and I never felt a thing, obviously my windows did though.

I thought it was a dream this morning when I woke up again, I live in OH and didn't hear anything about it until my class at 1...
Glad to hear no one got hurt and that my dreams aren't that crazy.

It's possible that both the quake and the first aftershock woke me up, but otherwise I didn't notice.

Around 2000ish? I grew up in Everett. I was in sophomore english class... It was pretty cool. And here I thought I was the only freak who liked earthquakes! All of them I've been in were non fatal though. Well, one elderly gentleman did die during that one but it was due to a heart attack :(

I live in NW Indiana and that was the second quake I've felt. It woke me up. The first one was from a fault line that actually runs through the pan handle of OK. That one felt like a fat person fell down upstairs. I was wondering why I woke up and then felt my bed shaking. How weird that it could happen here in the midwest.

Well....woke up to the news this morning saying that we had a 4.5 aftershock at 12:40am Monday. They also said this is the 15th aftershock since the quake Friday. I guess mother nature just isnt ready to give it up yet...
