Re: Official JKR 2008 clutch thread
08_clutch#005 - 4/15/08 - Lavender x Normal - 6 eggs
Interesting story behind this girl. She's 8 years old and first produced for me in 2005. She completely shut me out in 2006 & 2007 and I was thinking she was going to do it again... but she came through! She's super banded and H/C, perfect for het lavs and eventually awesome Lavenders.

On the same day caught the beginning of this ovulation - she'll end up being clutch #13... if I'm counting correctly off the top of my head

Re: Official JKR 2008 clutch thread
That clutch #006 will be a fun one to hatch out! ^_^
Something I was wondering when you made the first post, why are you crossing you line of pieds with another line? To test compatability, to bring in new blood? I guess I'm curious b/c what would you say the babies are (I know....pieds are pieds are awesome) if they aren't your line and they aren't the other? How do you know what traits came from your line then?
-
Re: Official JKR 2008 clutch thread

I'm crossing them for a couple reasons, the main one is I have little choice. I only have one breeder male from my line, my pastel het pied male... and he stopped breeding early this year and I had to back him up with something to ensure viable clutches. The pastel pied from my line is thinking about kicking in for me late in the season, but that isn't something I'm relying on.
You can be sure I'll produce plenty of clutches next year that are completely my line!! I'm looking forward to it, because I really do believe they have some unique characteristics....

Ah....I didn't even think about that :P I forget that your girls from your line are still pretty young. I hope I didn't come off as suggesting it was a bad thing that your crossing your line, I was just a bit curious as to what goes on when a new line is proved out.
And play some Barry White or something for that lil pastel pied male! ;) It will be pretty cool to see how your line comes along. Good luck with all of your clutches this year!

It was a good question! :) I'm looking forward to establishing my line really well next season. This year I should definitely prove compatibility beyond any doubt.

08_clutch#007 - 4/30/08 - 7 eggs - Pastel Het Pied (Kobylka line) & Piebald (Kahl line) X Normal
A couple tidbits about his clutch, this is a really nice ch girl sold to me as an "apricot." She also has a very striped belly. Only bred 2 times total, once by each male.

Its something I've started this year, just for my gravid females. I've found they seems much more secure and a lot less roaming around!
