What's your thought on this ball?
My friend has a very unusual ball python and we're wondering if anyone has one like this or has seen this coloration before.
This little girl is a CH from 07. The picture is accurate in color. If anything, the girl is more pinkish/yellow down the belly than shown, and this is when there is no shed cycle going. She really is this buttery yellow all over, too.
So, any ideas other than she's cool? Once she's bigger, we'll try to prover her out or see what might be lurking in the genes...

Re: What's your thought on this ball?
do you know what he bought her as?? Kinda hard to tell by the pic... do you have a full body, full belly shot?
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
It looks like a shed to me, or that she's being burned. No, I've never seen a pink belly other than shed.
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
Robin I would have to agree it looks like a burn.
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
I'll see if I can get a full body pic from her.
It's not so much that her belly's pink (though it does have a the pinkish tinge to it). She's got this all-over yellow wash to her. The snake was a captive hatch that was picked up with a group of others last year.
I can pretty much guarantee it isn't a burn. I've seen the snake in person and she's quite healthy. Husbandry is also spot on.
I'll see about getting a better picture to illustrate!
thanks for the comments so far, I appreciate it!

Agreed, it does look funky. It would alarm me more than anything, I'd just keep an eye on it. It could just be the picture too.. ah well

That is sorta what my friends snakes belly looked like right before it got belly rot( I did not know but she wasn't changing out its bedding other than the poop spots, not pee:rolleyes:)
What is she measuring her temps with?
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
that is a husbandry issue caused by either unsanitary conditions or too much belly heat...we rescued one that was like that and the vet told us it was scale rot.....are the edges of some of the scutes cracked or flakey??
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
we picked up some from a guy that had the same kind of belly. it was due to the fact he used the red tinted bedding for your garden in there cage. It seems to have tinted the scales. We put them on paper towel. we thought it was belly burn or rott but after the first shed the coloring went away.
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
Can anyone quantify what temps would lead to such a discoloration of the belly? High 90's? 100+??
Thanks!

We have a girl (about 2 years now) who is either WC or CH that has the same coloration, and I can guarantee her coloration is not from a burn or other husbandry issue (we run a clean environment with spot on humidity and temps). I'll try and grab a pic of her belly when I get a chance.
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
What do these snakes look like on the other side?:D
Re: What's your thought on this ball?
I have a female that has similar coloration as well. She is in a commercial rack with 19 other snakes, all having the same husbandry. In fact, there are two tubs on the same level in the rack, both heated by the same piece of flexwatt. The overall coloration of the snake is much more yellow/gold/orange than any other snake in the collection, and her belly has an orange tint to it as well, which becomes more intense as she enters a shed. Even her shed skins have a yellowish tint to them. She is a possible het pied, but there is no correlation between that and the color. Although I'm hoping that she will produce pieds with that color!

I have a male that will turn pink several weeks before going into blue hes a weirdo. And yes scale rot is a possibility I have a little guy with that right now it was my fault for not inspecting the animal better before purchasing but oh well too late now.
