    New python
Just bought a BP from a local person who wanted to get rid of theirs. Fortunately I got it because it was in pretty bad conditions. The tank was 4' long, 12" deep and 3' tall. Basically it was a water tank. They had one hide and water bowl in there and that's about it. Surprisingly when I got back and weighed it, it weighed 1720 grams. What a monster.

I will take pictures now and update the thread with them.

Are you keeping him in that tank or using one of your own? I'd imagine it would be tough to regulate temps and humidity on a tank like that but it'd make a great display!

    Looking forward to pics. ;)

No, I let them keep the tank and bought a tub from Walmart.

keep any new snake in Quarantine for at least 2-3 months to make sure it does not have mites or any other problems that could be transmitted to an existing snake. You should make sure that he doesn't come in contact with your other snakes for at least 3 months. make sure you wash hands before and after handling him and anyother snake.

If you don't strictly adhere to quarantine standards, you risk infecting your other animals inadvertently. You should keep new animals as far from your established animals for about 3 months so you can observe the life cycle of any diseases or other issues they may have without spreading them to your other animals.

You should wash your hands thoroughly before and after handling each animal, and keep an eye out for potential problems. After that time is up, and assuming nothing has thrown up a warning flag (RI, mites, etc), it can be assumed to be safe to house the animals in the same room, take pictures together, etc.

Well I have to keep them in the same room, my room. So I will just wash my hands before and after dealing with either of my snakes. I checked it over for mites when I got it home so I'm sure it doesn't have mites.

There's a lot more possible problems than just mites. If you can't quarantine in separate rooms, you should at least have them as far apart from each other as possible.

Photo shoots of new animals with existing aren't recommended. Even when I bring in new animals from trusted breeders - they get quarantined for a minimum of sixty to ninety days.

Congrats on the rescue though - it's a beautiful animal!

It's not just about mites, although that is a valid concern. Just like you can get a cold, your snakes can transfer communicable diseases if they are in close proximity to, or come into contact with common items without them being disinfected first.

If you must keep them in the same room, which is not recommended, keep them as far from each other as possible, don't use anything common between them, and wash thoroughly before and after coming into contact with either animal or it's enclosure.

While it's very likely that both animals may be fine, clean and in perfect health, it is all too easy to find horror stories about the loss of entire collections because of inadequate quarantine practices.

Haha! Adam would be the last one to be offended - he said he'd QT if Jesus himself sent him a snake! :P

Oh, I know... collectively, our snakes from Adam have spent the better part of a year in quarantine... the "no offense" was for putting 8 Ball in the same sentence with Craig's List.
