    African BP Imports
I was wondering if anyone has ever purchased a lot of baby ball pythons from Africa before? They are un-sorted so I like the "lottery" aspect of this.

However, has anyone had any health problems with these imports or is there anything I need to be on the look out for with these guys?

    Thanks!

I highly highly doubt they are "un-sorted".

Seach for Lottery and you'll find other threads on this...here's one of them:

Take the information and come to your own conclusions.:gj:

He really is only a fancy normal until you prove him out. Weren't you trying to sell him?

I like to pick up an unsorted lot once a year - what you need to remember is that they aren't completely "unsorted" - back in Africa they are sorted into bags of normals and fancies - these are what the importers buy and unless you specify that you want a "fancy" unsorted lot - you will get normals - some may be nicer than others - but it's unlikely that you will "get" anything other than that. And yes fancy lots cost quite a bit more.

Health wise they are within a week or so of being out of the eggs and are for the most part no different than cbb.

Last year I got a seriously kinked hatchling in my unsorted lot. But that is part of the gamble. I usually pick out my favorite female and then unload the rest.

I'll load one to photobucket and post it. He had a nice clear white belly.

Exactly. If you are buying, specify the fancies. They have most of the cool looking ones in there. Every one I got last year ate with no problems. They are shipped before their first shed. Some shed on route and others shed when they arrive.
This is what you will see when you first open the bag.

I have always wondered about those lottery things, I have seen them on kingsnake, and some claim to have morphs like mojaves and ghosts in their bags. I just dont believe that really.

When do these shipments come in, and how do you guys get access to look through them? Sounds like fun actually.

They will be coming in this month and the next, and you can just scour the classifieds and you will be sure to find MANY people that will be selling them.

No, I just mean I want to help someone sort out 5000 snakes. I've never seen so many in one place, it'd be cool to see.

    LOL!!!

You can go, but you need to know who to talk to to be able to get into it.

Usually they already have plenty of "help"

Captive hatched babies can have external and internal parasites, may be difficult to feed, and may be dehydrated or have other problems. They also may come to you perfectly healthy and eager to feed. It would be a good idea to have a decent amount of experience with keeping and troubleshooting with captive bred animals before attempting to establish a captive hatched animal. :gj:
