Mice or Rats... what do YOU feed

This is just a poll to see what every one is feeding their animals. The reason I made this poll is to get a percentage of who feeds what. It don't matter the size, the reason or the amount of rodent you feed. Simply Mice, or rats :)

This is also not to dump on what some one else is feeding their animal :colbert:

So... with that said, what do you feed?

You should add another option for both, I think that some have collections where certain snakes will only eat one or the other.

I primarily feed rats, because that's what I breed, not because I feel that they are better than mice. I have a few mousers that I still buy mice for. I raised the bulk of my collection on mice before I started to breed rats and I had awesome growth with mice.

Rats - both regular ones and african soft furred.

Mice, they breed like crazy and I never get attached to them( Rats make great pets!)

Both... The smallest rat I can get without having to drive 20mins is 45g so I have to use mice for all my babies until theyre big enough... Once I start breeding itll be rats.

I said rats because that's what happens the vast majority of the time, however, if one goes off feed (rare) for some unknown reason, I go buy a nice, albino mouse and that usually perks them up :) I don't get albinos for any particular reason other than I think they look cute.

Both... Like Mark said, whatever they want to eat.

I feed what works, I prefer feeding rats however some of my BP have another take on that :rolleyes:, so I feed both rats and mice!

Both depending on the snake. The little corns all eat mouse pinkies. My rosy boa and the new little BP eat small mice. Dax, our big boy BP eats rats, as does Sam, our female RTB.

I have one young BP, and he has taken a liking to live adult mice, so thats what I feed. I buy a few at a time, and get to play with them until their number comes up. I like my system.

Rats...but I'm starting to breed ASFs so hopefully rats and asfs in the near future.

I feed mice due to her size. I have a female Fireball Morph named Mila who's 21" and 138g. She eats four frozen-thawed fuzzy mice a week (2 every three-four days).

But, I feed mice because of the above reasons, as well as the fact that 4 out of my 6 snakes are corns and never really need anything bigger than mice. Also, there is the space issue: mice take up a lot less room than rats. :)

Rats are much more pleasant to handle than mice and can take a wider range of temps. Thats all I breed. The only time I use mice hoppers is to get hatchlings to feed if they dont take rat pinks.

I like rat pups for problem feeders because they pose no threat to snake and can be left with them for long periods if need be.

mice can be horribly canibilistic, gross little creatures if you ask me.

I always prefer to feed rats, but I have a few that only eat mice.

Both. I feed my ball and blood rats while my dumeril's gets mice.

I have one male spider that will only hit mice...other than that...all rats.

I feed only rats . Mice are just stinkin nasty and less nutricious than rats. Rats are the way to go if you can find them in the right size you need .

Sorry, wrong. Weight vs weight, mice and rats are the same thing. You may have to feed 2 adult mice to equal one small rat, but if the snake is eating on a consistent basis and is growing, then who cares what it eats.

All 45 of mine eat mice and they do quite well for themselves.

Everyone around here eats rats...well except for a normal male that will only eat ASFs..

Both my dudes eat mice, but the smaller one is now eating the same amount as the bigger one. After he gets a little fatter, and I run out of the bunch of mice I bought today (good CL deal), I'm gonna switch them both to rats.

In all honesty, I like feeding mice because I get to watch them eat more, but since they're up to 3 mice each, it's starting to take an awful long time to feed them.

I voted Rats. Once in a blue moon, if there is nothing else available, I might feed one-two mice. I breed rats though, so lately I have not had to buy feeders.When I hatch out baby BPs though, I start them on hopper mice.. it is just better IMO because rat pinks are about the same size, but the mice have fur and just seem more substantial. I will keep my hatchlings on a mixture of rats and mice though, so that their eventual buyer can choose what to use. I generally hate feeding mice though because I hate the way that they smell.

And not sure yet what my new female ball is gonna take. I tried a live small small rat the other night. To no avail. I put even smaller hides in there, so she's smushed in em.

I also did just get her. So she may still be adjusting.

Until now I've been feeding rats when the pet store had small ones and mice when they don't. Hopefully will soon be breeding my own rats. I'm just so tired of having to buy like 8 mice because they only have tiny mice and giant rats.

Mice- I don't like rats, and we breed our own feeders to save money and time. So yeah, mice.

Forgot about this thread. Personaly I use rats, but the pinstripe I have, well, he is eating mice. The reason is, he is a bit too small for the small rats I have in the freezer. If I known this before I placed the order for rodents, I would have added rat pups. Oh well, at least he eats :D
