    WHY Ball Pythons?
    WHY!?!?!?!

What are the best things about your Ball Python???

Be it Normal or Super Secret Morph of the Future, why do you love your Ball Python, and why did you get one?

The first thing that drew me in for bp's was that I really loved the way they looked. Just a nice normal patterned bp. After learning more about them I realized that they would be my first snake years ago. I enjoy that they are normally not very hyper and are easy to handle. I find that once you have the basics down, the husbandry is very low maintenance which makes it easy to keep multiples. Their temperment is generally really great, and just look at those faces! I love that they don't get large enough to require 2 people and are not a danger to anyone. Lastly, the fact that there are SO many morphs to choose from. I can't wait to start breeding!
This is a short list of things I dig about bp's....at work and may have to actually do some work today;)

    They're so pretty!

Our first male Pastel loves to hang out with us, sit around our necks, he wasn't head shy, and just an awesome boy! He's gorgeous and just an awesome snake. He's doubled in size since we first got him a year ago when he was just a baby, and he's well on his way to being a bronzed god-snake.:D

    several reasons..
    1. general docile demeanor. sure there are spitfire ones, but that could be said for any living thing.
    2. relative small size, husbandry is relatively easy when you have the correct resources to get your information from
    3. all the colors they come in and imagine the morphs we haven't discovered yet..

thats the reason I also picked my corns.

I've always wanted a snake, and I think all snakes of all varieties have their own beauty and charm. BPs were just perfect for my current stage of life. Being in college, I don't have a lot of space and being a amateur keeper, I didn't want to jump into the larger snake arena. I also didn't want a corn snake, as they were fairly small and didn't get very girthy.

BPs attracted me because they're mellow, easy to care for, solid snakes. I've never regretted picking Auryn :D I would LOVE to get a retic, but I just don't have the space or spare cash to care for a large, hungry snake ;) Retics are beautiful and maybe some day, I'll have one. But, for now, it's just Auryn and I...and maybe a Honey Bee some time in the future.

    1. Colors... Just the normals are stunning... can't wait to get a few of the morphs ie Pewter Pastel...
    2. Temperment, the least nippy of all the different snakes I've kept in the last 10 years.
    3. Husbandry is pretty easy once you join BP.NET!
    4. Having such a large friendly community to share my interests with.

Those are all I can think of currently.. but I'm sick today so... I'm sure there are more reasons.

Ditto! I love their natural facial expression...very "Oh!". People look at me weird when I say snakes are cute...bp's have the cute factor in spades.

    Re: WHY Ball Pythons?
I had been wanting a snake for years. 15 yrs ago, thats what everyone was suggesting for a beginner snake, and a friend had one, so I finally convinced my parents into letting me get one.

Can I say I've kept a ball python? Sure. Can I say Jasper's my buddy and I'm keeping him til the day he dies? Most certainly. He's been an awesome pet.

Would I get another one? Probably not. Everyone and their brother has them and breeds them. BPs have lost their appeal to me and I don't have the funds to try and break into breeding them myself.

    Re: WHY Ball Pythons?
When I started looking around, I wanted something that wasn't too small, yet wasn't one that would get so big that I could no longer keep it.

I settled on ball pythons, and then later found out about all the different morphs, so all the morphs are just icing on the cake (very expensive icing)

    Re: WHY Ball Pythons?
My first ball pythons were given to me. They are really charming snakes! It was when my original pair produced eggs and those eggs hatched that I really became hooked. It'll probably end up that way for every species I end up breeding... :P

I think the size/proportions was the most appealing to me. I looked into corns, and I looked into RTBs, but they weren't quite right for me. The corns seem to skinny, squirmy, and nippy, and RTBs are too large for my current living situation. BPs stay at a manageable size, look girthy, and have the awesome head/neck proportions. They are very calm, very attractive, and not nippy. Also, I happen to be quite nocturnal, and so is my BP. We get to spend a lot of quality time together every night.

    1. How calm/slow they are.
    2. How chunky (for lack of a better word) they are. I like how heavy they feel.
    3. Their skin is very soft, esp. their bellies.
    4. Cute faces!

    Re: WHY Ball Pythons?
    I think that-

-they are the perfect size. Not too large for me to keep easily. And not too small either.

-the morph combinations and possibilities are awesome.

-I get attached to my snakes, and they are all parts of our little family here! Not to personify them; but my husband and I know each snake's little quirks and appearance differences, etc.

-breeding is fun, rewarding, and slightly profitable.

    Re: WHY Ball Pythons?
The first thing I noticed about ball pythons is how beautiful they are. I think that even normal ball pythons are stunning, plus each one looks different from the next.
I like their size and girth, not to big, not to small.
I love their gentle demeanor, how shy they can be, and how they are so easy and such a joy to handle.
Add faces that are to cute to pass up and there you have it.

Well I originally wanted to start my snake owning adventure with a corn snake. But I bumped into this place and read all up on Ball Pythons and was surprised on how easy they are to care for. The pictures baffled me and all the different morphs drove me off the wall. Needless to say I do have a Normal now. She is a darling and is in Shed now(first one) and I love ALL BP's morphs and looks. I hope one day to have a massive female to take care of. The bigger the better but not big enough to hurt me tooo much!
