Nothing like exaggeration to make a good article. I just read an article online about a woman who was surprised by a 3 foot ball python in her living room. She only lived there for 2 months so they think it was the previous owner's. It didnt report anything really bad, but the picture next to the article link shows something like a big burm with the title "woman surprised by snake". Again, a little exaggeration goes a long way. I think it's ridiculous how this issue is constantly making into the papers now when a year ago you would never read about most of these stories.

I sent him a nice polite e-mail with a link to David and Tracy Barkers responce to the study he refers to and suggested if he writes future articles on any snake that he contacts the Barkers for additional information instead of using one study, that I could easily go and read myself, as the sole reference for a news article. I also noticed how the author of the paper seems to have a hatred of the Burmese Python by the remarks she made. To me it makes her a biased sientist on the subject which makes the paper even more subject to scrutiny as using incorrect data on purpose to write their study.

The only good thing about burms is that they make good leather?? :( :mad:

While I think that global climate change is a very serious threat - stupid articles like this with alarmist positions do nothing to help things. This guy is a nut job if his argument for global warming is the threat of burmese pythons.

So at the end of all that... I pictured a dancer strolling around a sewer in her platforms, finding a Burm... "This one will do!"... and flash forward to a stage with a huge Burm *with a poodle in it's belly* slung over her shoulder... :weirdface What???

I think it might have been written a little tongue in cheek there. Most serious reporters don't write that anything will swim up the toilet and "bite our butts".
At any rate, it's in poor taste and uses false information. Media gets worse every day.

at least he mentioned that Burms are strippers snakes of choice...that seems to be true..(Dusk till Dawn and Salma Hayek....best scene ever!)

i love how it makes the death toll from burms seem so outrageous...
i mean, it isn't really that hard for any one of the VERY limited number of constrictors that can kill you to take the title of most deadly. if someone had the actual numbers that would be great, but honestly, they can't possibly kill that many people... like less than 100 per year?

Are you talking about wild burms killing people per year? I believe that total is around 0, and max would be 2.

It's not, but Neil is a good dittohead who has spent so much time being spoon fed right wing propaganda from experienced conservative brain washers like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity that he is firm in his convictions that evil left wing liberals are the cause of everything from global terrorism to dandruff. So, it's no surprise that he would put an evil liberal spin on an article that was probably intended to be a humorous though misguided story based on shoddy science that couldn't possibly hold up under any kind of serious scientific scrutiny.

I email Gordon Rodda to ask if he had indeed granted that interview and if he had if he might have been misquoted. I also voiced my concern over the obviously biased and sensationalized answers.

You should all do the same. Don't worry he's a government employee so he can take some time to answer a few questions from us, his employers.
