how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
pretty much explained this in the topic line
still don't want personal opinions on my husbandry
-
Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
from what ive seen i dont think they do

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
Sorry.. but they aren't personal opinions, they are facts. Your husbandry is off..
There are people who have been keeping and raising Ball Pythons longer than you have been alive, it might be worth the time to LISTEN to them once in awhile.. Maybe your snake would thrive in your care instead of just surviving.
The lack of pigmentation in some scales after a shed is due to low humidity. Fix the problem, and the snake will fix itself.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
ok as a vet said my husbandry was fine as is but could use more humidity i don't care for personal opinions on my husbandry because i tend to listen to those with a degree in herpetology so drop it. thank you. now back to the topic i asked about how long should it take for it to look normal again is all i am asking
-
Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
I'm an RVT(registered vet tech), so I HAVE a degree.. Just because your vet has a degree in herpetology(which I doubt), doesn't mean he is an expert on Ball Pythons. Keepers such as NERD, Ralph Davis, Adam Wysocki, etc to name a few, who have hundreds to thousands of Ball Pythons "should" know what they are talking about.
Veterinarians are very generalistic, meaning snakes have one set of husbandry, lizards another, etc etc. Ball Pythons require temps of 92-94 warm side, 82-84 cool side, with an average humidity of 50-60%. If you can't provide that on a consistent 24/7 basis, then you need to do something about it.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
Ok since I know nothing of you husbandry I can't comment on that but I will try and answer you question. If the scales look stripped after a shed then it should clear up with the next shed. Just make sure that the humidity is up when they go into blue and you shouldn't have a problem. Now if they are striped off due to an injury or medical condition they might not ever grow back. So since I don't know the circumstances surrounding the damage to the scales that is the best information I can offer. :D
Hope that helps.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
ok for my tank the temps are off maybe one or two degrees the low side is the temp i keep in my room humidity is 70-75 because my bp is shedding so i am asking you to drop the husbandry issue i have since improved it gotten rid of the mite problem and have gotten my picky eater back on the once a week plan.
now my question still stands how many weeks should it take for that strip of scales to scar over? that's all i am asking nothing more so i don't need but a simple expectancy
do you perchance remember the wierd shed topic a few months ago those scales stil have not scarred over
i also have a question how is the vet tech field i start my course this july for vet tech

I looked at the pics you posted of your snake and the missing scales. The thing is that there is no way of knowing how long it may take. every animal heals differently so that may heal in one or two sheds and then it may heal in a year. Also You might need to get use to the idea that the scales might not come back now it will heal and be far less visible as the animal grows but there is a chance that your snake may just have a scar there and no scales. Only time and your loving care will tell.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
During the switch over to winter aka heating sucking up all my moisture I had one of my snakes with lots of scales missing from his head. I adjusted his humidity and with his next shed everything had cleared up. I would be patient and make sure you husbandry is ok for next shed.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
let me re-phrase it how long should it take to keep it from being infected he is currently going through his next shed cycle and i need to know if i am going to need to keep applying the triple antibiotic salve after he sheds apart from that spot on his back the rest of it has healed with the past few sheds

Again.....Every animal is different so it may be a month or a year if you looking for someone to say "In three weeks stop treating the area" you wont find them. You'll have to keep treating it till it healed how long will that be who knows just keep treating it till its healed.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
ok i'll try to get some pics of the spot after he sheds

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
I try not to be rude, BUT...
Why are you being so hard headed about the husbantry? You are asking how long it is going to take for his skin to heal... One of the major factors in a speedy recovery is SEVERAL PROPER SHEDS! The only way to get proper sheds is to have your husbandry perfect!
Further more,
YOU POSTED YOUR QUESTION IN THE HUSBANDRY SECTION OF THIS FORUM!
People in this forum are very good about not attacking new bees that make mistakes. They are quick to point out mistakes, but they do so in a caring way! The reason you are getting attacked is because you are asking for specific advice, then you give the respondent crap when they are right!
Your other threads have CLEARLY shown that your husbandry is WRONG. Your husbandry is what is screwing up the snake. Your husbandry is what hurt the snake in the first place. Swallow your pride, and look through the stickies for the basic setup. Without fixing your setup... the snake is going to die.
DROP THE TUDE, be nice, and listen to the advice when you ask for it! We are glad you are here, and look forward to your future posts. We will do everything we can to help you learn if you let us. We are your friends. If you don't want to be friends, then find another forum.

ok since you are neither mod, admin, or even veteran i will tell you to drop this "tude". My husbandry may have been what caused this but, as he is my brothers snake all i did was check in on him from time to time. Now i have moved him to my room and am keeping an eye on him and my husbandry has improved so i suggest that you take a few steps back and review the question i asked; "how long should it take for it to grow back or scar over?" I got my answer which was, "any where from two sheds to a year "and that was all i needed thank you very much  on another note his shed came off in two pieces without retained eyecaps. so i will try to get pics sometime today. with the newbies permission of course.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
Lol, who saw this coming from a mile away?
Ever wonder why you only got 1 person willing to walk you through your question? Because you were VERY rude to anyone that posted something you didn't like about your snakes condition. All comments on husbandry advice was met with angry comments and in no certain terms to blow it out our holes.
So yes, your posting etiquette may have gotten better, but I can't say I blame any one for not being overly gracious to you in return in their posting.
You burned a lot of bridges when you pretty much told everyone including me to screw ourselves.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
and to be quite frank i still stand by that decision and yet for the purpose of the snake becoming healthy i have come back to ask one simple question this.
as such this is my two sided coin if you can poke holes in my husbandry without being abrasive about it i welcome you to but you get what you give with me.
now unless any one has anything substantial to offer like a way of healing this thing faster then i have an essay to write

So let me get this strait... So now I am the new bee? Listen here sonny, I owned my first snakes, and various other reptiles before you were even a twinkle in your daddy's eye.
When you are screwing up, making wrong decisions for your poor snake, and someone quickly points out the errors of your ways, it is not being abraisive. It is trying to stop you from injuring your snake.
This is a forum. If something is wrong, someone will say "You are doing this wrong." They are NOT going to say, "sorry, but mr. serp, if you don't mind sir, you may want to review this situation, I am sorry but I am not trying to offend you but i just think that may be wrong, but please forgive me for bringing this up."
You need to get over your mommas boy mentality of requiring everything be served to you on a silver spoon in order for you to accept it. It is only going to hold you back in life. GROW UP!
Jeesh! :8:

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
ok that's it i come here as a way of helping my snake got that? i don't come here to hear snide remarks from you. take your opinion elsewhere because i don't need it.
-
Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
Serp.... Don't go. We want to help you buddy! So far it looks like you are doing much better for your snake, and that is great! Let us help you "tweak" your setup! With a little help, it will be just right! We don't want you to go away! we just want you to listen when we give advice! you don't have to agree to all of it, just listen... and think.
You remind me alot of myself... before I saw the light. I appologize if I upset you, it was not my intent. Hang in there man, you are almost there. send a few IM's... rebuild some of the bridges you have burned. I look forward to your posts... and look forward to helping you with the little bit of advice i can give!

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
All I can say is wow. Pretty much any question a new BP owners asks about his/her snake will be equally met with the question "describe your set-up and husbandry." I am glad you have received the answer you were looking for but seriously...you need to loosen up a bit and embrace the criticism. IMO I have my husbandry and set-up pretty darn good but someone will ALWAYS be able to point something out I can improve, and I don't mind! You were very rude in several posts and that is simply not needed.

Re: how long should it take for some peeled scales to grow back?
Please note that Serpents-Prey is on a 30 day temp ban (for accumulated infraction points) and will not be able to respond to your posts until the 30 days have passed (you can see his status under his name) and the temp ban is lifted.
Hopefully he'll take you up on your offer for help when he returns Mcavana!
