do female rats smell when they are in heat?
I just got a young female rat, I am not sure of her exact age, but I would guess around 4-5 months. I woke up this morning and her cage smelled strongly when I opened it, almost like a sweet musty smell. She was with a male younger than her over night who was fed off this morning, is there some smell secreted from them breeding? I know this is gross, I was just wondering if it is normal or if I should be worried.

Well, i gotta say, my rats smell sweetly musky, sometimes they smell barbequish. and sometimes like grape soda.

I find that my boys smell musky a lot of the time.

I am using that carefresh stuff, and she is in a tank with a bigger water bottle now, I moved her when I cleaned out her tub and figured she would enjoy a bigger tank more.

    Haha, not my rats.

I'm drop dead serious when I say they smell like barbeque. My girls in the cage smell like barbeque... and sometimes one girl will smell like grape soda. I can't explain it, but it's common among other rats owners. :P

(i pegged down the barbeque smell when Becky said that's what hers smell like. It's a woody smell I guess, like mesquite or something lol)
