I finally found rancos on ebay!!
So after searching for about 2 weeks, page after page after page hoping to find a deal I come across the words Ranco ETC. So I do a search for that. THERES BUNCHES OF THEM! After shipping I can get one for $50! SUCCESS!!

I feel so warm and fuzzy inside knowing I don't have to worry about my crappy rheostat allowing fluctuations of 10 degrees to occur while I'm not home. When my collection increases I still plan on getting a herpstat 2 but for now this is perfect. I just had to share my glee.

Be careful to match the model numbers a lot of the Ranco on Ebay are 12 volt models.

Yes those are the 120v (the ones you want) :gj:

I agree with Robin at that price you are going to need to wire them yourself so you either need to be good at wiring or buy/find someone to wire them for you.

Oh yea, thats why it took me weeks to find what I was looking for, everything needed hardwiring, the ETC models are all prewired and have the piggyback plugs

I double checked and only some are pre-wired, others say it can be done with an extension cord. But thanx for making sure I checked that. I could have bought the wrong one.

Unless you want to do it yourself, I would suggest you to get it from someone that knows what he is doing and for that I would suggest http://www.reptilebasics.com/Ranco-E...d-p-16172.html

I trust my bf to do it, he went to college for 3 years for home automation which is wiring home theatre and automated heating/cooling/lighting and whatnot. I will check with him before I buy anything though. I have looked at reptile basics for rancos and other thermostats. Thanx for your help!

If your bf does low voltage wiring he can wire that. All it is is a relay. :gj: I do the same thing home automation and security/cctv systems, it's easy.

Is ranco one of the better ones? I have two thermostats but they sometimes fluctuate. The warm side tends to stay within 90-94 but every now and then jumps to an unexpected 100.2 F.

I really need a new thermostat but don't want to spend a lot. Would this be a good one? Oh and I don't mind wiring

Ranco and Johnson's are the favored on/off thermostats, Helix and Herpstat are the two favored proportional thermostats.

Do you have a dial that you have to change to keep the temp right? Thats a rheostat (what I have at the moment) and they fluctuate a lot. The thermostats (ranco or johnson at least) switch on and off when the temps go above or below what you have set to be the min/max. A lot less worry:)
