Sadly I found a mess of mites in Jaxsons bin last night (THANK YOU aspen!) so hes being treated for them... but while he was out i did snap a few pics

:) were trying.. we are treating everyone else too as a preventative. thankfully he was the only one on aspen. He is 192g already with only getting on sm-med mouse every week, so were trying to do things right... hes so funny and honestly come night fall he looks like a totally different snake!! here are a couple from a bit ago (tonight)

Hey Ashley, how do you get him to hold still for his weight? I tried to get Zelda on the scale but she was way to interested in moving!

I either put him in a bag and then weigh the bag after or I just put him in it and put my hands over the dish of the scale and wait.. either way works great lol

Looks Colombian to me Ashley. I'd watch though messing about with picture taking right after eating. It really is best to let him just relax and digest his dinner and leaving that stuff for another day. :)

How long have you had him? Where'd you get that aspen from? Any new snakes in recently or trips to a pet store where you handled snakes or a snake show? Any mites before with the snakes? What are you using to get rid of them? I've used aspen for years and have never seen a mite *knock wood*.

He is a hogg/columbian... just alot more columbian looking lol..

he did eat three days ago today, the pics were taken late yesterday, but with mites and meal we do plan to leave him alone for a few more days.

I have not been to any petstores, no shows, exc. He is fairly new but did NOT have mites when we brought him home.

Nothing has come in or out in quite sometime (at least a month, i believe the male mojo was the most recent and he too is still in QT with the exception of a new het pied who is also in QT away from everyone and he just came home last night)

the aspen we also have had for quite sometime (got it before the boa even came home if that gives time referance) it came from Ben Siegels, we got it at least a eight weeks ago if not more. I cant imagine for the life of me where else it couldve come from.

Were treating with Mite off i think (will check when i get home on exact name) its a solution that came from Underground Reptile, we used it on Cameron (i think) and it worked great for her when she had mites more than 4 months ago at least. We found Jaxsons mites in his water. they were very large though, much bigger than Camerons, more flea sized but definetly not ticks.

Well considering mites are nocturnal, he may have had them for quite some time before you noticed. Engored female mites are most often what we see, as anything younger than an adult mite is very very hard to see unless you are purposely looking over the entire snake. When the are full of blood is when we see them, and even then, they don't make most of their moves till night time. He may be covered in them at night, but you haven't seen it till now.

I'd treat everyones enclosure and the surrounding area with PAM. Put the bag of aspen in the freezer or toss it entirely.

:) hes my little buddy.. although last night i lifted him to clean his bin and he was fine, the moment i had him in my hands he opened his mouth and started hissing lol.. scared the you know what out of me!

How old is he?

Nick, I would be lying if I told you.. I know hes a late 07' the mites are gone by the way :D thanks for your help everyone.. his next bag of aspen is in the freezer. he just likes burying too much to take it away from him
