Hi just wondering, when your ball hits about 300 grams are you feeding mice , rat pups or rat weaned.

pups. I step up to just weaned at about 500grams. They can eat Just weaned at that age, but likely will not do so regularly.

I usually put my snakes on weaned rats at around 250grams, and step them up to small rats at 400grams. Anything over 600grams gets a medium rat, and all of my larger 900gram+ snakes eat large rats.

It usually takes my snakes about 4-5 days to process that, and then about day 7-8 they are ready to eat again.

The only advice I can give you on this subject really is to maintain a weight, feed, deficate and shed schedule so that you can keep track of how quickly your BP is growing or if it isn't growing, and then just base you food choice on that.

Oh and one other thing is pay attention to how quickly they swallow the prey after they kill it. Because if they are struggling for 15 minutes to swallow something, then it's prolly to big, and you should step down a size. My snakes put down their dinner in about 5 minutes on avg. I've had snakes that have taken 15 minutes to put down a meal, and then it took them almost 2 weeks to deficate, so I had to step them down a size.

Like said above. Mine got fed 40 gram weaned rats up until about 400 grams. He's now on 65 gram small rats. And at almost 600 grams now.

Eating weekly like a champ. And growing like a weed.

Nice sized pups. They leave the snake looking thicker but not a big distended feeding lump.

abby is likely over 300 grams now and last wednesday i fed her a male rat that was fighting with both my male and females. the rat weighed about 80 grams and it really didnt seem that difficult for her to swallow it. i put my hand around the largest part of the rat and compared the size to abby and there wasnt much difference. i was skeptical but figured she wouldnt eat it if she couldnt handle it.

i traded my other rats that were that size for weanlings as i think rats that big are just a tad too much for her right now.

she was out and about all day yesterday so this morning i dropped in a rat pup and she slammed it right away. is it normal for a BP this size to have such an appetite?

and to think the previous owner only fed her twice a month:rolleyes:
