I was wondering if something like this would happen. Isn't it pretty much the Florida fish and wildlife thats behind the efforts to ban boids? If I were in that business I wouldn't want to bring that state any commerce either. I wonder if it's true?

I don't see that being true at all, not only is it great business for these breeders but it is such a good time as well. I see the point about it being the Florida Fish & Wildlife proposing that ban and not wanting to bring them commerce, but I think everyone being there and selling there pythons and boas would send a message as to how big our community is and how united we are against the proposal. Just my two cents.

HA.... I think everyone NOT going and NOT bringing their money with them would send an even bigger message.

the majority of their stuff at Daytona is the large stuff Retics, Burms, and a few others. Fl wont even let you bring them in for a show with out PIC tags and a permint. Its just not worth it for them. Now things may change but as of now they are a no

Florida shows may die out slowly.............. Or atleast the larger ones.

There are plenty of other larger shows these guys can go too and sell all their stock.

You know what, maybe if they get alot of emails pressing the issue of alot of breeders dropping out because of the ban, and asking them to move it to Atlanta where more people could attend, we might be able to persuade them? I know for a fact that if nerd AND RDR are not going to show up, neither will I and my dream of seeing them will be crushed.

    their email is whill1@gate.net

Atlanta would be easier for most people since it's a major airline hub. you can almost always get a direct flight there.

Got a email back from The owner of the expo, pretty much saying that all you need is the $100 permit, or just ask the vender if he can ship the snake to you later if you live out of Flordia. I see no reason for nerd and Clark not to go because of it? Its not "Ban"

Why would you have it in Georgia?......instead of retics and burms being banned....people wouldn't be able to sell cornsnakes, kingsnakes, and milksnakes if it was in Georgia....

Most places have laws already....and those without laws are trying to get some passed..

Re: Daytona 08, is it true?
You know, this just sucks. Yes, florida sucks when it comes to snakes... that is because it is one of the only places where you can let a snake go, and it will actually live.

I think the "big boys" need to seriously rethink this decision. There are lots of Floridians / Georgians that have been waiting for this show. A chance to meet the legends, their snakes, and maybe even have enough cash saved up to "contribute to their cause"

Yeah, you may have to go through a little extra red tape because of the current state of things... But honestly, I think they owe it to their fans.

If it is a pain in the ass to bring the burms and retics, then leave them home. they are NOT what made you who you are! BRING THE BALLS!

It's not like it is a big expense! I assure you the readers on this forum alone will make your trip worth while! I know I will for one of you!

Re: Daytona 08, is it true?
I hope its not true . . . . Daytona wouldn't be the same without them. But, unless lots of other big breeders drop out, it will still be a great show and party!

p.s. Florida isn't retarded, just some of the rules we have to live by are. Reaction from the non-reptiles lovers to retics and burms in the Everglades, iguanas multiplying in the "wild" all over the southern part of the state, monitors running free . . .

I know here in central Florida we saw mass hysteria after an adult monitor lizard was sighted multiple times in a neighborhood. Made the front page of our paper several times until one was caught. Many people have an unnatural fear of reptiles and they therefore "react" without the facts. So many made calls to our elected officials telling them to do something about this problem . . . they heard and acted in response to the majority. Do I think the resulting rules were warranted? No, but I understand it.

Ummm, noooooo. Enough with every place but the Northwest :rage:
Eugene Oregon is a terrific university city with a great mix of people; Bend is a very small city and lots of people come here to ski, bike, hike, etc., so you already have lots of tourists! Okay? Not NH and not Chicago!!!!!! :tears:

Re: Daytona 08, is it true?
We also heard that NERD, BOB CLARK, and MIKE WILBANKS are not doing the show, from another vendor that is friends with Wayne Hill.
I think a lot of the big breeders are dropping out of Daytona due to it being such a expensive show to do, and not as much money going around.

A large amount of animals are going overseas due to their $$ being worth more now. With so many buyers from away it is easier to just sell to them from your facility and not worry about a big show. Don't get me wrong it sucks they are not doing the show but if sales are slow, its better to sell to foreign buyers than to fight for rock bottom priced sales at Daytona.

This is just our thoughts on it but hopefully things will change.
